Anyone own an Ontario Spax? Likes/dislikes? How much use has it seen?

I bought mine for a BOB and have used it camping. I figured it looked like a good cross between an axe and a "tactical" tomahawk so for 40 bucks i jumped on one. Its a decent weight for chopping, finish was good, but the blade was horrible when i received it though. Its gotten through everything i've put in front of it. Not as well as a good hatchet, but 100 times better than any hawk i've used.

I keep mine strapped on my bob, also it has chopped everything I put before it. But it is a little heavy I sometimes favcor my sog fast hawk for hunting and camping

I've spent months in the bush and never needed anything like that. I can see it's uses for large game, or even for defense, but that's a lot of weight for a very specific use. If you need it great, but I never needed anything like that. It might be a good spot to save some weight if you look at your actual needs rather than just following someone else's list.

It is shaped like an aviation style crash axe.

I read the title and thought you meant 'spanx,' those "suck in your gut" girdles that women will sometimes wear.

Guess I've got nothing to add to this thread!

(not meaning to imply I'd have all that much to add to a thread about spanx either)

If you had to chop your way out of a airplane fuselage there is nothing better. I have a friend that carries one in his car all the time. That said, for something that you are going to be carrying you are better served by something lighter.
