Looking to stay with single battery source (AA) in my bug out bag. Have a couple of nice headlamps but they are AAA sourced. Any recomendation on a good AA head lamp? Do not mind spending a little more for better run time or lighter in weight. Recomendations

Here's what I use:

The light is a Streamlight ProTac 2AA. It works great for laying under equipment or leaning into an engine bay. It probably would be a little more stable with a single AA light, but it's not bad with the 2 AA. I've also clipped my Stylus Pro in there before, it's just not that bright compared to the ProTac.

Yeah, it's a little more redneck than a headlamp, but it's versatile and it works in a pinch.

No question, only one choice in that category:

I have a Fenix HL21, runs off one AA battery, super bright, adjustable brightness. I love it.

Fenix makes an excellent headband - works with most AA and CR123 flashlights. Includes a waterproof spare battery holder that'll hold 2 AA or CR123 cells.

Although not shown in the picture, there are actually two light holders included - you can attach flashlights to both sides of your head, or you can use the second holder to cobble together another headband.

GoingGear has 'em for under 20 bucks.

I have a few different single AA battery LED headlamps and the Zebra is by far the best.  I’m packing one with me now in Afghanistan (not AA, but single 3V).  I use the AA version mostly for recreational activities to include swimming.  It's the best LED headlamp for the size and battery type I've found and I think I have close to a dozen of them  I would caution you to consider storing it empty or with a lithium battery to prevent leakage typically occurring with alkaline batteries over time or in extreme temperature variations.

I have a Cabelas Alaskan Guide headlamp that my daughter gave me for fathers day several years ago. Its used mostly at work for search and rescue but I also use it around the house for everthing from working on my truck to grilling out after dark. It uses 3 AAs that seem to last forever especially on the green LED setting. They work very well fornavigating throught the woods at night without blowing your night vision. I've used it in the rain a few times with no problems.
If this one ever dies I'll buy another one.

+1

I have Quark, Fenix, Streamlight, Princeton Tec, Petzl and other headlamps. None are near as good as the H51w.

Yeah, Zebralight headlamps are hard to beat, although I am partial to the H31Fw.

My son and I both use the Energizer Ultimate LED headlamp for camping and caving. I ordered them online because they came with both a AAA and a AA battery pack, whereas Target and Walmart only had the AA pack.

I use AA's but carry the AAA pack as a back up in case I need it. That way, it's push a button and slide out, reverse process to install the spare. No fumbling with batteries in a pitch black cave. I've been running over a year now on the same batteries that came with it so I don't know what the battery life will be is but it's pretty darn good because of being LED and multiple intensity settings.
