Hello all, what is your take on the Condor tactical day pack when used as a bugout bag?  Are there better packs for the same money?

I've got a condor pack that I've been using for almost three years now and it's pretty much toast. Zippers failed, stitching splitting, etc.
For the $75 or so I paid, I'm not complaining.

The 'C' in Condor is for China.

OK, then help me out guys. What is a great pack that isn't too small, yet at the same time isn't too large?

I have one of these Condor bags set up as a BOG/ GHB. It spends most of the time strapped to the jumpseat in my truck, so it doesn't get much abuse. It fits a change of clothes, MRE, small pistol case, first aid kit, and some other miscellaneous items with a little bit of room for more.

I've owned a lot of other Condor gear that got used heavily back when I played airsoft. The only common failure I had was the zipper pulls coming apart. The strings would pull out of the plastic bits. I replaced them with paracord. Problem solved.

Think carefully, and tell us what you want the pack to accomplish.  What is your budget?

I have a few condor pouches and such, and they seem all right.  I dunno if I'd trust one of their packs to not let me down.

Maxpedition bags are great. The link is to their website, they can be found cheaper if you search around. I use the Falcon II for my mid size bag. You can cram a lot of gear in it, and it also compresses down quite a bit when its not full..

Well I don't really wanna spend over $150.00. The bags sole purpose will be as a bugout bag. I would like the bag to be rugged, with plenty of room yet not too large at the same time. I would like to have the option to be able to add a small attachment if need be, and most importantly, feel comfortable.

Some better quality suggestions in your price range. Also check the EE section here, there are packs listed everyday.

Blackhawk X-1 Raptor
Kelty Falcon 4000
Kelty Raven 2500

Please keep in mind these are all from Botach and to google there name before buying. I only mentioned them because i personally have dealt with them 5-6 times and never had a single issue.

I think the problem most people have with Condor in a bug out scenario is it will eventually fail; and fail faster than most other bags. I have seen Condor get used/abused by air softers and for the money is ok. If you are looking on the cheap, I may look at The North Face backpacks for school. You'll give up some cargo volume in many cases, but for the same money you will get a bombproof product. I have used the same one for 20 years. First is was the college bookbag, then the jet setter carrier on, and I even use it to travel to Afghanistan. It has many miles on it and still is very strong and discreet.

Condor is relatively cheap.

In-house REI brands are GTG.  So would pretty much ANY camping gear eqpt company (kelty, North Face, etc).  Obviously Maxpedition. Camelback (if you don't like the bladder, take it out).  If EMS (Eastern Mtn Sports) has an in-house brand, they should be GTG (I haven't shopped one in about 8 years).

Try looking at steepandcheap.com for good camping deals. Also REI clearance or outlet websites.

It's a copy of "The Pack" and I've EDC it everyday for 2 1/2 years.  The only thing that's failed is some stitiching is fraying.  And I blew out a zipper.  They're YKK zippers.  Very good pack for the price!

I have one of these packs and it's a great pack. I've noticed in the last year or so Condor products have gotten lots better. If I had more money I would get nicer stuff, but I don't so Condor fits the bill.

Maybe it's because they were pretty much all that was available for a decent price when I first started getting interested in this stuff, but I'd take a look at a medium ALICE. They can carry a good amount of gear, you can hang pouches on them, they're durable as hell, and you can find them anywhere. Without a frame I wouldn't put more than about 25lb in one for comfort reasons, but they can handle a lot more than that. The MOLLE assault pack is another good one, but I like ALICE a little better simply for the replaceable shoulder straps. Get a pair of Tactical Tailor Super Straps and you'll have more comfortable straps without the potential weak spot of the USGI straps' quick release.

Either pack is good to go. I use a Multicam T.H.E. Pack and my wife uses a RECON RUCK strapped to shortened ALICE frame to fit her short torso.

Back when I was involved in C-141 special ops, someone bought a bunch of black gear so everyone could look like operators.  As soon as the gear came in it was discovered that the real operators had gone to civilian looking gear so as not to draw attention to themselves.  Then we had to go buy our gear all over again.  If looking the part is important, get the parts that have the look.

Condor stuff will never be Elderstock or Karifu but their quality has gone up in recent years. For light to medium use, they are good for the money.

Or you can buy mine from the EE and evaluate it for yourself :)

I have a condor I keep stored away in the closet as a BOB. It will do just fine as I will hopefully/likely never use it, but like others noted, you get what you pay for.

For my daily pack I use a 5.11 rush 24. Much better quality and dexterity, not much more money. I have confidence this bag will go the distance.

Probably works for your price range too. Check it out, Rush 24

I have a Voodoo Tactical that has seen some abuse and extreme weather.  It goes from the trunk of my patrol car to my POV trunk, gets bounced around, ect......  It's done me fine and hasn't fallen apart.  I also had a rifle bag that the stitching failed a year after purchase.  I called Captain Dave's as they are the largest reseller for Voodoo and they replaced it without a problem.  Great customer service.

I also have the LAPG 3 day bag, haven't used it much but it seems good.  If you want the best quality, you will pay for it.  I happen to be a huge fan of Tactical Tailor.  They aren't cheap, but they will last forever and their made in the U.S.A. and not by little kids in China.  I have a bunch of their stuff and it is rock solid.  Plus, they give a copper discount.

One other option is Blackhawk's 3 day assault pack.  The link is not my auction, just an example.  I picked a new one up for about $75.00 a couple years ago for my kid.  He was going through cheap chi-com backpacks for school.  I got him this one and it's still going strong.  It's teenager proof, you will be good.  His is Coyote Brown, not all tacted out, fit's in nicely and is huge.
