Lowe used to make the early versions, before mfg was switched over to other mfrs. It might be possible to adapt some Lowe components to the CFP-90 with minimal hassle. The other alternative it to ask vendors of genuine USGI packs if they have any components lying around. It would not surprise me at all if some of 'em said yes. What are you missing? |

Thanks for the ideas. I was given the pack and from pictures and descriptions of it I found online, it looks like I need the aluminum bars, the back pad, and the padded kidney belt. Brick The aluminum bars are called "stays", and you can always cut down longer ones; just pay attention to the width and thickness so the stays will fit into the long stay pockets. Lowe has no lumbar pads for this particular pack, but one from another Lowe pack might do. You could probably fabricate a decent substitute out of closed-cell foam. The waist belt is essential, as it carries a good deal of the weight of the pack. |

I don't think any of the parts are really interchangeable. I compared the two side by side and didn't see a way of readily adapting the parts from one to the other. Maybe I'm not creative enough, but I didn't see what could be done. The harness yoke in the back is a completely different setup from the CFP which IMO is the weakest link to the whole darn pack. The Lowe versions were built like tanks with a solid suspension system. The CFP90? Not so much. |

I'll look to see if I can locate any spare parts for these. ...Rob... http://www.OutfittersSurplus-Gifts.com |

Quoted: Typical CFP-90, later, non-Lowe mfr. Lowe packs had brown borrom/sleeping gear compartment, others green.http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/DSC011221.JPG http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/DSC011231.JPG http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/DSC011251.JPG Brick Obviously missing Lumbar Pad, Waist Belt, and internal, Aluminum stays. Also missing accessory Patrol Pack, which you can get from Old Grouch. He sells the correct version of patrol pack for your version of the CFP-90. Before you spend a lot of time and money on this pack, I'd inspect every square inch, both inside and out for flaws, paying special attention to the stitching. If all looks well, buy a 6-pack of bic lighters. Turn the pack inside out, and sear/melt every edge of nylon fabric that looks like it might be beginning to unravel. Some mil users have reported seams busting out on later mfd packs, but whether this was due to bad thread/stitching or improperly seared fabric that subsequently unravelled is somewhaat cloudy. You can't do much about the stitching/thread, but you can certainly sear/lightly melt the edges of the raw fabric, thus preventing the material from unravelling. I perform this inspection on every single item I buy. For the most part, mil-issue stuff needs attention FAR more than civvy stuff. People have reservations about the CFP-90 pack because of the shoulder strap suspension possibly failing. This can be repaired by Lowe, IIRC, but a better solution is to sew the straps––minus tne black, plastic "duck's foot" to the body of the pack. If you take care to sew the shoulder straps to the right spot––for you––, the problem is over and done. |
