| I'm going on a solo backpacking trip soon and want to get a solar charger. I want it mostly for my phone but would like to take my IPad loaded with some books if is feasible. Any recommendations? |

I bought one of these about two weeks ago at Cosco. I paid $80 for it on some kind of promotion. I have not used it a ton yet, but I did charge my I-phone with it while at the beach. Took about 1.5 hours or so for a full charge. It is a little finnicky (SP) with I-Phones, but it does work. I had to open the solar panel and let sit in the sun for a minute or so and then plug in the phone. It came with the solar panel, speaker, and a 12V adapter and will charge anything small (phones, ipods, cameras, GPS, etc) that you can plug in with a car charger or a USB.

This will charge an iPhone just fine, but it will not charge an iPad (current draw is too high). The Guide 10 battery pack will also not charge your iPad due to current restrictions (at least, I'm 99% sure the iPad requires more than .5A current to charge). |
