They look like the ones we use at work. (Firefighter/Paramedic) They are made cheap, but will cut a penny in half once or twice. We usually use them a couple of times them toss em. I don't think they were designed to be used over and over again due to the high probability of being contaminated by bodily fluids. Which is why 99% of ours get tossed. I have never tried to cut anything ridiculous with them, but everything I have tried to cut they worked. My advice is buy 10 of them and in an emergency count on only being able to use them a couple of times. That being said they will do a lot of light duty work fine i.e. cutting 550 cord or cloth. The best way to get familiar with them is to buy 10 of them and take one pair and just wreck them to get a idea of their capabilities. Start off with cutting light stuff then move up to heaver stuff like leather or that ominous penny that is standing between you and self-rescue. Seriously, they do come in handy a lot. |

the ole saying "you get what you pay for" holds true on these. the cheap ones after a couple of uses wont cut worth a damn. the good models are worth the extra money. your better off to go see them in person and buy which ever ones feel the stoutest. On these that isn't necessarily the case.....I've dropped $18.00 bucks on a pair....and they did no better or worse than the pair we ordered for $35.00 per dozen. Normally I would be inclined to agree....but I've had experience with both high dollar and very cheap shears.....we'll see. I wanted a pair for each of the vehicle emergency bags....and a new pr for my EDC bag. |

I have several pairs of these from County Comm; they work awesome! Can't beat $7.
And they have a bunch of other neat stuff as well.... http://www.countycomm.com/premiumshears.htm M590man |
| Got a set on my belt right now. I go through several sets a year at work, One of the best tests to gauge quality is to see how much play there is in the handles. The blades should mesh together tight with no play in the handles. Play in the handles means the material will slip between the blades and not be cut. |

I have run across ones made in Germany and ones made in Pakistan (the Pakistani seem to be the most common). The ones made in Germany are SIGNIFICANTLY better. They are very smooth and sharp and have better handles. I was issued the ones made in Germany, but haven't been able to find where to purchase them. Because of this I do not know how much a German pair would run, although probably more expensive than the ones made in Pakistan.
