Yes, I did a search and I read the related threads. I also read quite a few threads
on other forums. There is a whole lot of heat, but not much light. I will be storing some gasoline in a 500 gallon tank. However, I want to easily transport fuel to and from that tank. I have no issue with using a single Eagle or Justrite safety can for most of that. However, I would like to be able to transport 20 - 40 gallons as needed, and that means jerrycans. The supersiphon is fine, so I am not concerned about spouts. Given that, my choices are: The current DO cans: $196 for 4 shipped. http://www.deutscheoptik.com/product_info.php?products_id=1718 The Swiss Army Vehicles cans: $28 - $38 (free shipping for me as they are local). http://www.pinzgauer.com/showdetails.php?cat=surplus&partno=SAV1100U The Schotsman Equipment Oil / Water cans: $103 for 3 shipped. http://cgi.ebay.com/3-Jerry-Gas-Diesel-Cans-20L-Steel-German-Military-/280591673822 Also under consideration, some used Scepters: $185 for 4 shipped. http://cgi.ebay.com/Scepter-Military-Fuel-Can-MFC-set-4-used-VITON-GASKET-/280612804306 Your thoughts? Under normal circumstances, I would keep them filled for a potential bugout or for an extended trip where gas stations are few. (Ever been to Mexican Water, AZ?) If things were ugly, I would be refilling them from the big tank and transporting them as needed. ETA: Was it ever determined for certain whether the DO and Schotsman cans liner and gasket were gasoline compatible? |

Bought a pinz there as well as numerous things over last 4 years including cans.. |

http://stock-number.com/06MilitaryFuelCans.htm 2 brand new Mfc's, 1 spout new and a cap replacement new for $135 shipped. They had about 280 left when I ordered. I believe they only ship to non-CARB states. Give them a call quickly. Read this thread and there's another link to an informative thread about half way down the first page. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=10&f=18&t=641759 |

I believe there is a place for the 5 gallon cans so don't think I am saying to just avoid them 100%. But if playing with a 500 gallon tank have you considered some of the larger options out there? There is a rolling plastic fuel caddy that I have never seen in person. There is a metal rolling fuel caddy and for the right price I would probably like it. I bought one of the 15 gallon fuel tanks that are dot rated to be mounted on a trailer. It just has a plug in the bottom for you to attach a hose to that and let gravity fill things up. Since I rent I still have not messed with mine but it is something I keep in mind since it is one container that can hold 15 gallons. Lately I have been thinking a bit more about a fuel tank with an electric fuel pump that I find at a junkyard and remove from a vehicle. Just wondering if you have considered any of these other options as well. I have a lot of little containers right now since I rent and don't want to mess with a huge container but when I get some property I see the system being a big tank, like your 500 gallon tank, and some mid size stuff that can hold 15 to 50 gallons. Some of this might be fuel drums or car fuel tanks or whatever. And then the 5 gallon personal sized stuff as well. |

I have a dozen of the Sceptor MFCs from the seller on EBAY you linked too (I have had them for several years) and I love them. I also have a bunch of the DO Jerri Cans that actually used the standard nozzle and I like them likley better then the Sceptor but the nozzles you can get for them always seem to leak. The Sceptors never leak. Anyways, all are better then anything you can get elsewhere so buy while you can! |
