| If you had a choice, new 2011 Avalanche with Z71 or a Surburban with Z71. Both have 31 gallon fuel tanks. Thanks. |

available with different engines?
how many are BO w/you? towing anything? what else do you plan to take w/you? The truck bed is less secure, but the "security" of a sub only takes one rock thru the window. The truck bed is nice for "nasty" stuff like fuel cans etc, but the sub allows sleeping easily, and more roof space for a larger rack/storage. All in all, of the choices I'd take the Sub I have an '05 Chevy 2500hd quad cab 4x4 w/a shell on bed and a modified commercial rack and winch&bumper. I'm still working on all of it w/a lot of plans still to pull off. I consider it a better choice than either of the ones you mentioned for my use. It sill has plenty of room inside w/a secure (from prying eyes) bed. and full length rack on top and a 3/4ton is much more capable/built better than a 1/2ton. FWIW I went looking for a half ton and got the 3/4 for not much more $. Shop around and good luck. |

Honda Pilot 4x4. good gas mileage, looks a grocery getter cuz it can haul lots of groceries. It's a Honda so it should run forever or until all the gas is gone. while that is YOUR choice for YOUR situation, it's neither of the one's he's listed in the choice. your honda won't go where my chevy will go, but it will get better gas mileage not getting there, but once again, neither were in the running for OP's initial choices, and ALL vehicles have limitaitons, there is no "perfect" BOV for everyone. What are your opinions on what he asked? |
| Between those two, I'd probably go with the Suburban. Although I'd skip the 1/2 ton model with the useless z71 package, step up to the 3/4 ton platform and be sure to check the boxes for the Snow Plow Package, Engine Block Heater, and Skid Plate Package options. |

Suburban and I have posted many times why I like the 3/4 ton stuff over the 1/2 ton stuff. But get what fits your needs when it comes to weight capacity. I have a jeep suv and have a hitch hauler for small nasty stuff and a utility trailer for big nasty stuff. I do somewhat miss the pickup bed on my previous truck but overall I like the lockable security an suv brings to the table. Can you still get a burban with barn doors on the back? If not then I could see me not caring as much about the avalanche vs. burban. I just find myself less and less a fan of tailgates and big windows these days. One thing I would look at is what you get when stepping up to a z71 package or going from half ton to 3/4 ton. I know the z71 package used to be something worthwhile but I think these days it might be more of a sticker than a really great option. But research it. If the 3/4 ton has bigger front axle shafts and what not I prefer that, if it uses the half ton front differential and axle shafts then I am not as impressed with stepping up to the 3/4 ton. |

FWIW my '05 3/4 over the 1/2: same axles as the single wheel 1 ton w/less spring capacity and a MUCH larger frame than 1/2 ton. I"m VERY happy I was able to get it over the 1/2t. I also got the 6.0 gas burner (wanted +$7k for diesel) w/the 4L80 and4.11 gears. it tows great |
