My neighbor is finally getting off his arse and putting a BOB together. He has enlisted my help with pack and contents. The contents I have under control. What I have recommended as far as pack is concerned is the Molle 2 withe the gen 4 frame, shoulder straps and waist belt. Question is : is the molle 2 gen 4 shoulder straps quick detach?
Anyone disagree with this recommendation? He is prior Army so the Alice pack is out of the question and he is on a fixed income so cheap is good. Comments? Thanks for any advice. BTW: I don't have a pack nor have I ever had a Molle 2 pack so I am flying blind but I have read the molle pack discussions. ETA: Where is a good place with a good price to get one. Free or cheap shipping would be good also. Thanks again, rustee |

The nice thing about the Molle system is that you can adjust the back pack straps and the kidney pad to fit a persons height. I have fitted boyscouts and grown men with them. I usually put the frame up to a persons back and figure from that point where the kidney pad is going to hit them. And I do the same with the back pack straps. One thing you do want to do. Where the back pack straps attach to the plastic clip at the frame. You will have excess attachment strap that lays over the wide straps. Tie that down to the main strap this way you don;t get play from the frame. Do that once you get the back pack straps attached to the frame. Make sure the middle of the back pack pad hits your friend in the upper middle of the back.
Positioning the kidney pads and back pack straps make all the difference in the world as far as comfort. <link to business site removed>-Phil_in_Seattle |

rustee, i'm a bit confused, did you mean the alice system IS or is NOT out of the question?..
also if you're looking for cheap but quality, i would maybe mention the alice 2 for $50 deal linked posted on page 1 of the gear forum, in conjunction with the molle shoulder stap, kidney pad, and other upgrades as per member "enforcer"s' instrutions in the tacked "cheap but useful tricks" thread at the top of the gear forum for assembeling one of his "hell cat" packs. 2 packs for $50 is as pretty decent deal, and if your neighbor really doesn't need the second perhaps you could get one of them off of him real cheap if you are in need of another, or he could possibly sell the seconf pack and the sell / trade the LCI / II straps towards offsetting the cost of the upgraded molle straps. just a though... wether the alice is an ok or not pack for him, enforcers' "hell cat" upgrades according to pretty much everyone whom has tried it and posted about it makes the old alice a whole new and MUCH better ruck...
