So... This is yet another MOLLE vs Alice thread. However, this one is a bit different.
I have been using a Hellcat version of the Alice pack (modified according to our own ar15.com forums) and I have been more than slightly pleased with it. While a bit on the heavy side, I must say - those who haven't tried it really don't know the difference a few milsurp tweaks can make to make the original Alice pack a brand new beast. As we all are, i'm always looking for new stuff, and while following the forums, and the links, I came across this: Molle Pack So.... While I won't be going to the desert any time soon, after comparing prices and looking around, I think that's quite an amazing deal. The question is - has anyone here used a hellcat (or other modified ALICE), and if so, have you tried this MOLLE (which does include the Gen IV frame Thanks in advance, and FYI, I love my alice - just curious if this would be a good upgrade. |

The only negative to the MOLLE ruck is that the frame still isn't as strong or easily repaired as the aluminum ALICE pack frame. It is more comfortable though since it's a bit longer and fits my torso better.
ETA: I didn't look closely enough at the MOLLE in that link. I don't like that style. The newer ones with the single bag are much, much better. The one in the link is the older style with the separate sleep system compartment. The main pack is barely bigger than a medium ALICK ruck, and the sleep system bag isn't actually big enough to hold the complete sleep system easily. The newer one piece bags are better for storage, and space efficiency. You decide how you want to pack it, and use the space you need to. If you use a small sleeping bag, you don't have to waste a ton of space in the separate sleeping bag bag like the one pictured, or try to fit other gear in there and make it an organisation hell. |

Ive "souped" up my Alice pack, it works for me. Ive tried many other hi-tech packs and always come back to the alice pack. Just get a nice padded belt and straps and learn to pack it and learn to wear it properly. Same here. Mine has Blackhawk straps/pads/belt, all buckles replaced with fastex type, beefed up stitching and extra bartacks. Do wish the frame were a tad longer, but it works. Nothing carries serious weight like an Alice! |

Thanks for the offer, but nah.
Just saw the special, and was thinking it technically was the "replacement" to the ALICE gear, so it might be a bit better . I know it's a personal thing (and we're all arguing over it), but the 50 bones was about what I spent on making my hellcat, and I was just thinking about moving the Hellcat to a full time BOB, and picking up a newer pack. As for buying it, I just found out that their shop is Columbia, MO - and my fiance (and where I will be moving) is Jeff City... so, it'd just be a quick run to the store for her. Thanks for the thoughts, though guys. Looks like i'll stick with the Hellcat for now as a primary pack. It sure is comfy and works great. Just was wondering about "adding" to my stockpile. |

I have an ALICE rig, and when looking for the straps and belt to upgrade, I saw that. In true ARF.com fashion, I decided to get both. |
| An interesting question - if anyone here has had any luck dyeing MOLLE gear? If I got one of those desert packs, I'd be looking to change it to a flat black. Any luck with any dyes? I've tried a number of combination's of RIT for some nylons, never with much success. I've read quite a few posts on OD & Brown dyeing, but nothing about a flat black. Anyone have any suggestions? I've read acid dyes work better, but again - would I get it to a complete flat black? Just curious... |

A guy over on FALFILES.com is going to be posting soon for sale some of these FLC's that he has dyed black. He says everything turned out great color wise except the zipper didn't take the black. I'll point him your way. |
