So I decided recently to set up one of two medic packs. My wife is a RN and I'm a medic so being able to use the equipment is not an issue. Its a work in progress and they will be located in each of our vehicles. This is the main equipment that I have come up with so far....but I already have list of things to add. I am also in the process of making orginization inserts for it.
The pack is a LA Police Gear Diplomat pack found HERE for $18. I know thier are better ones out their but I also have seen what the elements do to gear and their is no way I am spending $200 plus on something.
The main outside of the pack....seems pretty durable and good quality. Added a Milspec Monkey "Red Cross" patch
Side view....plenty of room to expand.
The front small pouch is used for initial assessment equipment. Gloves and BP and stethascope kit.
The second compartment is bleeding control. Mainly alot of roller gauze, 4x4's band aids and trauma dressings. I have to get some quikclot and a few other things for this section.
The main compartment is where all the specialty and big stuff is. I have an adult and peds Laredel Stiffneck Select c-collars, BVM, 2 SAM Splints, Asherman Chest Seals and a ton of other stuff. Like I said I have more to add, like I want intubation kit and some other odds and ends. |

Where are you collecting your gear from? I would like to put together a full kit, but the cost of the stuff is CRAZY. I like the color coded Oral Airways, and your Collars, but again, that crap is PRICEY.
How are you going to price out Laryngoscopes? If you have a hook up, let me know. The question I keep asking myself is HOW MUCH is TOO MUCH? Do you need to have intubation gear in a first aid kit? If so, you gonna carry O2? What about a Defibrillator? Chest tube kit with a Heimlick Valve? Where do you draw the line? What about DRUGS? Carry Lido? How about Versed and Succs? Full ACLS drug kit? I realize you have the training to use the gear, as do I, but how much do you carry in your "kit?" Honestly, I've often thought about picking up an AED and throwing it in the trunk. I'm not trying to be a smart-ass, I'm just interested in how you go about deciding what gets into your kit, and what doesn't. I applaud your efforts!! |
| just my 2 cents, and worth exactly what you pay for it......... It is great that you are putting together a bag, but you WILL be LIVID pissed when you really need something in that bag and have to dump it..... there is a reason that medic stuff is expensive, life is worth it. |

Yeah I have thought the same thing....their is a line. I am trying to do the basics and some general advanced stuff....nothing that really expires and cost a ton of $$$. My equipment I get from several places www.savelives.com www.galls.com and using my buisness account at the local medical supply company. The main reasoning is both my wife and I drive long distances and the EMS on the freeway is done by volunteers. So response time isnt the best and we both have stopped at too many bad things and had nothing to work with. I'm not trying to stock a squad......just have the basic ABC's. |

Thats why I posted I am making some inserts to orginize everything. And thats why everything is in bags

I am seriously considering cutting my intubation kit out and substituting in King airways to save on space and weight. I stock a lot of the same stuff you do but I did notice the lack of a 14g angio. I also have a small fanny pack I picked up out of a JEMS magazine several years ago that I stock my first line stuff with. Basic bleeding control, BSI, steth, IV start, etc. I get much more use out of that than I do my big pack. I went with this for my trunk pack. It's held up for several years. I bought it after a conference and got an awesome discount since it was the one everyone had played with for the weekend. (Mine is an older version.) http://www.statpacks.com/products.php?grid=0&id=110 |
| I purchased one of the sattelite bags from country.com a while back and use that right now. It is just the right size to put some module packs (bleeding, IV, Airway etc)in it. You can use it as a shoulder bag, big fanny pack or I can strap it onto my SAR pack. It is somewhat small but it does everything that I need it for. |
