I picked one up for $1.97!  It is a military NSN model (I don't know the number off hand) & it came "folded".  Should it be stored rolled or folded?

I am going to google & study how to use it in a minute.

Here is what I do with my SAM splints.

I photo copy the instructions, then I laminate them and tuck them inside the folded SAM splint.  This way when you open the splint the instructions are going to fall out.  Remember, YOU may the patient.

Rescue Essentials has a free SAM splint instruction DVD.  You pay $5.00 for shipping.  I have dealt with this company for  about two years and have absolutely no complaints.

www.rescue-essentials.com is their web address.

Hope this helped you.

big +1 for RE and that vid... has a LOT of good info on it if you aren't very familiar w/SamSplints and even if you are. After you watch the vid, you'll be able to build a bridge and drive a tank over it outta sams... well, ok, not really, but almost

Another +1 for Rescue Essentials.  You can also go here scroll down to the lower left of the page.  There are Flash Player videos of different folds/bends you can do and how to immobilize different types of injuries.

As far as how to store it?  I believe it is individual preference.  I keep the 2 I have folded because the bag I keep my stuff in has a pocket they fit in perfectly.

Remember that splints aren't just for broken bones.

If someone is bitten by a snake or wild animal, you'll want to splint their extremity to keep them from moving it.  Less movement = less poison spread.

Dealing with Sam splints on a regular basis I prefer them to be rolled. It seems that if they are folded the fold really never comes out when straightened. There is a little "peak" that just lingers. With that being said, Ive never seen a new one folded. They are always rolled and shrink wrapped.

They come packaged folded also - I have two of them and they came folded from the factory.  I've seen them rolled like you have as well.

Yep to the above.  Depends on how you want to carry them.  In our ambulances, we carry them rolled 'cuz that's how they come.  In my own kit, I get the gray ones and they come flat (and that's how I prefer them in my ruck).  Folded, though, is a little harder to get the creases out.

I've stored them rolled and flat. I had an OVERPACKED combat lifesaver bag, and I wanted to add a SAM splint to it - I laid it flat, then wrapped it longways around one of the portions of the bag, then buckled the bag. The SAM splint stayed wrapped in place and didn't take up room inside the pouches.
