I have several of these and have given many as gifts.  They are the best, IMHO, ferrocium rod system, and I have tried most of them over the years.  I cannot say enough good things about them.

I got the firesteel.com radger for x-mass and i don't like it that much.  It seem more like a LMF typ of fire steel I thought it would be more like a mich typ of steel.

I got a Bruntron firesteel for Christmas, used it just the other day while camping, and worked like a charm.  A combo of a little sawdust soaked in citronella oil and a couple of fluffed out cotton balls is great for catching sparks.

Do any of you guys start fires with these things without some fancy tender? If you are going to rely on premade tender then just bring a lighter. m4whore

Yes, I have started fires with a variety of tender, all of which I collected in the woods. Nothing premade required.

One of my favorite, due to being so readily vailable, is cedar bark. Get a couple hand fulls, rub it back and forth between your hands to separate the fine stuff, and you are in business. Leaves, grass, cattails, all good to go if it is dry. We have had a lot of rain this year and I have yet to have the cedar fail me using a fire steel.

You might check out the BlastMatch from Ultimate Survival Technologies.  It kicks out a ton of sparks without smacking your tinder away with a striker.
