I am looking at getting a chest rig and have narrowed it down to two pretty good choices.  I was wondering if anyone has used either of these, has a comments, feedback etc.

The usage would be in a SHTF scenario or possibly if I can find the time to do some three gun or tactical type shooting competition.  My criteria: under or around $100 and not too big or bulky (I could always keep my LBE if I wanted something with more storage than a small backpack).  If needed I could always carry extras in an assault back or my Camelback.

Anyway - here are the two I had in mind:

Eagle Chest Rig, Universal/SKD Version

Eagle LE Active Shooter Chest Rig

They're pretty similar.  In the first one - I like the easy accesability of the mags, but wonder if you used one, would the other fall out easily?  The second one fixes that, but they are a little harder to get to (However it appears that they can be secured in the "open" position).

The first one can be equiped with a thumbreak to act as a holster, but I think I'd use my Balackhawk Serpa more than a mag pouch.

I can't tell if I like the individual flaps over the pistol mag / flaslight pouches or the bigger flaps - seems like a toss up

Anyway, does anyone have any ideas / experieence / suggestions?

The universal open mag pockets can be easily modified with a length of ellastic cord through the grommet holes for retention.

The padded straps are nice if not worn over a thick/armored vest... then they get a bit bulky.

Either one will get you going, and after some use you'll know what you want.

I really like my universal chest rig

you cant see a ton of detail, but here it is in action at a local shoot (pay no attention to the targets I miss)

mag change was not captured, due to obstruction by poles/scorer, but it did go smoothly

if it was between these two, I'd go with the second...but, I love my Tactical Tailor Mini Mav and highly recommend it

I've got the SKD universal. Really a pretty nice rig overall. There is a member that sells a fix for the most annoying thing (for me) and that is that the X-harness sometimes comes together and rubs on my neck. I've considered just putting some 6" athletic armbands on them at the neck for addl comfort.

After having a chest rig, I'm not sure that I wouldn't like to have a battle belt of some kinds as well. Gear on the belt is nice.

ETA I removed the retention straps for the rifle mags. I just don't like velcro and snaps on gear. Retention is good enough to hold a single PMAG in each pouch without a problem.

Great - I think that answers my question.  I was concerned that if the pouches hold two mags, and I removed one I was worried they would become too loose - so thats not the case, right?

If you were being swung around from a helo or a ceiling fan by your ankles, one might might come out. The elastic really gets a workout if you shove 2 PMAGs in there. I don't really want to carry 8 mags in most cases, so I just put one mag in each. GI and PMAGs work fine.

I would vote for the universal, I've had no problems with the single mags falling out, I suppose if you did tactical cartwheels you might have a problem, but I haven't lost a mag in the time I've had mine (first run from skd)
