I was checking out govliquidation.com and found a 3kw diesel generator on there.  How hard would it be to wire this to a house that needs 110 and 220, or is it possible at all??  Here is the link for it...http://www.govliquidation.com/auction/view?id=2358759&convertTo=USD  Thanks to all who offer assistance.  This last storm that hit Missouri has made my mind up to not go without a generator.  I appreciate any help.

It appears from a quick look that it can provide single phase 240V or 120V power so it would probably work with a bit of creative wiring though  I didn't see where it listed the type/size of outlets for the power that are available.  i.e. 30A twistlock plug or ?

IMO that genny is primarily built to provide 3 phase power at 3kw and as an afterthought single phase 240/120V power.  3kw is kinda small for single phase power but not for 3 phase.  You most likely would be better served purchasing a genny that is built to produce higher kw's in the form of single phase power.  The military uses lots of systems that require 3 phase because it can be more efficient running large motors.  3 phase is almost never needed in a residential setting unless you have a large machine shop type tools or refrigeration requirements.  Also it does not state if the genny makes single phase power and then converts it to 3 phase or vice versa.  Phase converters can and do wear out over time.  Also are repair parts available if needed?  If you are mechanically inclined and an electrician (or amateur electrician) looking for a project this might be a good deal & a fun project, but if you are looking for plug and play I would look elsewhere.

many people do not know it, but it is not unusual for residences to have 2 phases and a neutral of a 208v 3 phase system, rather than a 240/120 3 wire system.
