I have a handheld TV in my kit currently for monitoring local news. I realized this morning, come June (if they don't delay the switch further) it will be a brick soon.
1) does anyone bother carrying a small TV? 2) has anyone purchased a digital that will work on the new system? ***NOTE: a simple search for "portable digital TV" is tricky - many have digital TUNING but not digital signal, and are not clear on what they are. String me up if the TV is a dumb idea , or if you have one of the new ones that will work, throw me a recommendation.

I just had an "Oh-No" reality too as while I don't have a small TV, I do have emergency radios that have TV audio. I wonder if they will work after the digital TV conversion? My guess is that they will not work...
Oh well, I would normally use these listening to radio stations anyways but it is something I had not considered before. Perhaps portable digital TVs will be made in the future? |

This is way I just changed out the radio in my BOB. It wasn't much of a weight change but the old AM/AF I put in is 1/3 the size of my do all one I had in there.
I had been wanting to buy a small BW 12Vdc TV for about a year for around home and if I BO I could keep running on Solar Power. But I always had better things to spend money on, and there was the up coming switch so I was waiting for one with DTV built in. |

I used to have a radio that could tune in some channels but it broke long ago.
Once the switch is done I could see more being offered and prices coming down but I don't consider it a requirement. Having the basic am/fm stuff covered will get you the news and I always figured the tv was entertainment, but back then I actually watched tv. |

If I understood the question correctly on listening to Tv on the radio.
One of our local stations was on the radio, with the switch, it does not broadcast anymore. (They went ahead and switched on the 17th). I am guessing no more tv on radio, at least for a bit. The tv station said they are working on someway to continue to broadcast over the radio. |

I got a TV tuner for my laptop, and it can get digital.
It was pretty cheap, a small box that plugs into a USB port and an antenna that attaches to that. It actually works pretty good even with the small antenna it came with. I have a small 8 inch laptop I use when traveling light and it would work well with that. maybe something to consider...... |
