[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Resources for learning compasses

I never really used them other than in grade school. I know how to use a GPS without a problem, but thought it would be a good idea to learn how to use a compass. Where should I start? Any good resources you all could recommend?

Compass? pah!
Lick your finger, test the wind, and start walking.... worst case the coyotes (or bears or whatever) eat you.

Hawk I do understand. I have the gear, and do go outside, but thought I should do some research on the tools before I start out there..

I just want to make sure the book is only a part of it . Read it and then bring it along.
