Are you a recruiter trying to "make mission"? Sorry, but they aren't free. Been there, done that, 22+ years worth. Once it's on the hand receipt you either turn it back in or buy it. Any "real" tips??? |

I have not bought any in about 8 years now. I went with the old Nam eare OD green heavy rubber ponchos. They kept me dry many a night. The new camo ponchos I got in the late 80s and 90s when I was in the Army were worthless. They were light weight but leaked like a sive. (I did 21+ retired in 97) I bought them on line from a surplus outfit. Cant remember the name now. Easy to find with a search on line. RLTW |

Owning one of these now and having used the usgi ponchos in and out of the Army, I find these better. GoLite poncho/tarp ––––––- in Sage green |

Maine Military Supply has Swiss Camo Panchos on clearance cheap...
3 Swiss Ponchos for $12 |

The USGI poncho hasn't changed since they changed the pattern from OD to woodland. I think that was Vietnam? Anyways... they are plenty easy to find at surplus stores. If you know someone in the military, they can pick you up a new one. The new ones are about $40 at clothing sales |

Doesn't seem to be a lot of difference between a new one, and the earlier models. |

Heads up on the Golite ponchos. Outdoor basics has them on clearance for $22 each. Only the blue left but a great price considering they are normally $50. Lots of other cool light-weight stuff on sale as well. Did anyone order and receive one of the Golite ponchos from Outdoor Basics. I ordered 2 and they only shipped me one even though they charged my card for 2. I called and now they are sold out. If they got a bunch of ARFCOM sales because of my referral then I am pi@@ed!! (not at ARFCOM'ers but at Outdoor Basics) because I helped them sell out after screwing up my order. |

How is the current issue poncho ? I've been out for many years so I haven't seen one in a long time. These aren't issued anymore. I was issued one of the last ones. Mine had gotten torn up overseas and I went to CIF to get it replaced and they gave me a MARPAT tarp. It's just a tarp, 8x10 I believe. No snaps or hood. I never actually used it beyond JOB inspections so I can't say how it performs but I'm sure it's ok. |

Not exactly a GI poncho, but...
TruWest has some pretty good parkas –– but they're a bit on the expensive side. Then again I have heard from people who have been using their original parkas for 10+ years still going strong. If you want, you can have a thick layer of fleece put in there as well. They are waterproof, windproof, etc etc. I have worn mine outside with just a normal long-sleeve shirt under it, in -8F weather with -35F windchill for ~45 minutes and was quite warm the entire time (jeans + long underwear on my legs). |
