Looking for info on these:

http://www.permanentmatch.com/

Thinking they would be good for a kit as an alternative fire starting source.  If anybody here has one, are they worthwhile and durable/reliable.  How long do they burn on a charge of lighter fluid?  Are they fairly windproof?  Thanks.

That seems kinda cool! I'm interested if anybody  has used one before.

They've been around for many years. Never used one though.

There are different types.  That one looks to be all metal.  That might work well.  Check it for an O ring at the base of the striker/ match (where it screws into the container).  That will seal it well.  The plastic ones have a tendency to leak; and, thus are out of fluid when you need them.  I have a couple of these (peanut lighter).  They work great.  I have one I have been carrying daily in my pocket for over a year.  It has yet to leak.  I take it out every so often top see if it still lights.  I just did that today.  It lit first try.  I wish I could say that about the "permanent" matches I've had.  As I said at the beginning, the one you posted looks like it is all metal.  That one might work great.  Look for the O ring to insure it won't leak and will work when you really need it.

Got that same one. Seems approx half the size of a small zippo...

Lights fine and is kinda like a mini cotton torch, so you have a seperate torch (tooth pick size) and the container... I burn charcoal lighter fluid in mine (cheaper, easier to find)
Not sure on the wind thing, better than a match, but not as much as a zippo I'd guess.

I've also got one of the peanut lighters mentioned. They work well, and are small, but you can't leave them lit for very long before they start to get warm to hold, and I'd imagine you could leave it too long to be too hot to hold at all. Got warm on me sealing the ends of paracord shoelaces.

Sorry I couldn't help more, but thought I'd toss in my $.02

I had one of the plastic ones back in the 70's. They work if you have a minimum of wind. As cheap as they are get one and give it a try.

I have one of the permanent matches from Countycomm.  IMO they suck.  I'd rather have a ferro rod, Bic, Zippo, or regular old wooden matches.

Well I decided to bite the bullet and placed an order for 5 of the little buggers.  Will review and post results when they get here.
