Before I shell out for an EoTech... Does anyone have any insight into a solar powered sight which may be more beneficial if the s(really)htf .. Not interested in a POS like a Tasco....  Or do i pack batteries?

Go with the EOTech (and a solar powered battery charger)

Or get an Aimpoint and a spare battery.

What he said...........

There was a dealer on here that was installing a solar charger on the eotech some of that flexible solar stuff.......not sure if he's still doing it and i'm sure it would void the warranty on the eo...... but if you wanted to gamble it can be done.

Just get an Eotech.

Go to live.com and search for "Eotech 5XX(whatever model) ebay".

You'll see in the advertisement bar a link to ebay and saying something about 30-5% cashback on your purchase.  It changes often so if it's low just wait and do another search later in the day.  Click on the link and you'll be taken to ebay where you can pick an Eotech with a buy it now option.

Wait 2 months and you'll get your rebate.  You can get up to a $200 rebate.

Essentially you're able to get a NIB Eotech for up to 30% off.  That's how I got mine.  My boss got an ACOG the same way.  It's hard to even find a used Eotech, Aimpoint, or ACOG at that price.

My understanding, and it is not based on experience, is that the eotechs drain batteries significantly faster than the aimpoints.

If you want it to last, get the aimpoint.

That was the MGI rep.  I'm not sure if that was an MGI operation or something he was doing on the side.  He's moved onto another job so contact MGI and check if you have some interest.

He also would set up solar sells on a VLTOR or LMT stock and convert one of the compartment tubes to be a recharing bay. So you could leave the EOTech stock and have a spare pair of batteries in the stock recharging.

Yes, I bought a eotech 557 with 4x magnifier and an aimpoint t-1. BUT becarful who you buy from on ebay. I would recomend emailing SWFA, they will set up and auction just for you, so you can get the savings. Thats what I did for my eotech. FMJs-of-Freedom

Aimpoint, FTW.
Incredible battery life
Double-battery module ($35) from SWFA.
I've had my Aimpoint for four years+ and haven't replaced a battery in hundreds of hours of training.

Get a trijicon and never worry about batteries again

Zeiss Z-Point

About $450

FYI: It's a hybrid power supply.  It'll use the sun to power the red dot during daylight and run off a battery when it can't get sunlight.

Just get an ACOG or an Accupoint.

Everything from Trijicon works great, and the Tri-power is the only one that even needs batteries to light up. My guess is that they made the TP just to satisfy people who weren't comfortable with one of their sights unless it came with the option of battery power....
