The most recent LL Bean Hunting Catalogue has a seemingly well-equipped bag for Veterinary emergencies when your pet has been injured and you're away from your normal support system (hunting, camping, etc.)  You might want to check the contents; even if it's nothing more than scraped paws, considering the utility of a good hunting and watch dog (not to mention there's always a need for a good mousing cat),  the investment might very well be worth it.

Dr.Foster & Smith has some good deals for working dog supplies.  Used them for years.

The LL Bean kit is over priced.  You get very basic first aid supplies that you could buy at Wal Mart cheaper.  Aside from the staple gun.  Which, you don't need to be using without some training anyways.  A staple gun won't save your dog's life, so don't pack silly crap like that.  That kit is a waste of money.

make sure you get a product called 'EMT Gel". I always keep it on had, especially during duck hunting season. It speeds up the clotting of open wounds on your dog.

is the EMT gel something you can obtain readily over the counter? I'd love to get some for my retrievers...

Thanks -

Yes, it is in all the mail order pet catalogs and most of the hunting catalogs. I also saw it at Sportsmans Warehouse.
