I have recently purchased a leapers plate carrier, and about to give up on finding anyone who will sell lever 4 ceramic rifle plates.  I know that there is a big controversy if the armor is even needed in a shtf senario but with my first child almost here I wanted something that I could throw over the wife and kid until I could get them out of harms way or if it came to it wear it myself to defend the home.  Does anyone out there know if it is illegal to own level 4 or do people just not sell it to us>?

any thoughts=suggestions?

They also have stand alone level 4 (slightly thicker/heavier) and famastone super light plates (lvl 3, half the weight, but much thicker at 1").

Great company to deal with.

At least in washington I believe they are legal to own unless you are a felon.

If you live close to a milt base, the local army/navy places will likely have SAPI or ESAPI plates.  Most plates are only rated level 4 when used in cojuction with soft armor.

diamondbacktactical.com  usually has stand alone level 4 plates, but they ain't cheap.

Personally, I wouldn't touch those.  First off, you don't know what conditions they have seen, and that can affect their performance.

Second, they likely aren't surplus.  They have wandered off from the system, somewhere.  And just like the guys who bought Interceptors off Ebay from soldiers, you run the risk of prosecution and confiscation.

The source listed above will do you just fine.

OSI hits the surplus stores and pawn shops pretty hard for these items. I would buy from one of these stores IF it looked to be in good condition, no folds heavy bends, holes, lead splats, dents.

Apparently, the Feds are the ones who wish to keep Lvl IV plates off the civilian market.

You're good enough to pay taxes, but not good enough to save yourself from bad guys.

Check eBay Everything Else > Personal Security > Body Armor.  There is a current listing for what you seek.

+1

Bought a pair of Lvl III stand alone steel plates from them last year.  Went with the steel because of price and no expiration date on them, but they had ceramic available and were happy to sell them.  Give them a call and they will talk you through what they have, options, price, shipping.
Eventually, I plan to pick up a IIIA vest or two for SHTF, but for now, I am satisfied with the chicken plates...

I have been looking for some time.  Everybody here has good things to say about bulletproofme.com, so I will probably use them.

Begin rant:  This is just another item I think you should get before the obaminator gets in.  Armor will probably soon join the ranks of banned and prebanned along with guns and ammo.  End rant.
