I've got a set of titanium cookware that is very light, however it sucks for cooking anything other than water! And I'd like to have a semi light but durable set that can be used with a alcohol stove and campfire. I'm getting more minimalist as time goes on and need something that is durable and multipurpose. I've read some stainless steel reviews that said the MSR alpine set is to thin and has the same problems. Any input would be helpful. THX |
cools down rapidly...very rapidly. thats the only downside IMO, that and the price tag as far as the MSR set, the older ones are G2G (3 pots 3 lids) the newer ones (2 pots 1 lid for both) IMHO isn't worth getting. They're not as compact because you're stuck with this big ass lid regardless of which pot you pack, so thats not so great as the old ones. I only ever used the medium and small pots in the old set, now I'm stuck taking a big one and a medium one and only having 1 lid. As far as thickness is concerned, they're just as robust as the old ones, and if they are thinner it's by a minuscule amount. The weight difference is because you don't have 2 extra lids and 1 extra pot. <edit> they make two versions of the alpine cookset, the classic and the guide. If you get one get the guide. I have the classic version and I'm not to happy with the fact that the lid is a shared lid. |
I have this really tiny cast iron skillet I keep wanting to bring along. ![]() To some extent I am getting lazy and using some stainless steel coffee cups I bought in the camping section at walmart a few years back. They are single wall and have a wire handle and while small they work for all sorts of stuff. To some extent the more I played with pop can stoves the more I wanted something smallish to boil water in. I need to find myself a canteen cup, how in the world I can't find my canteen cup is way beyond me but I don't think I own one right now. I have some pots and pans I bought in the camping section at walmart as well, I actually have them in the kitchen at the moment since I got to wondering how well they would hold up to lots of use and they hold up well to lots of use. These are just some they had on clearance a couple years back and they are so cheap the copper coloring on the bottom is wearing off, it was obvious it was not a copper bottom like expensive kitchen cookware uses but with just being washed in the sink and used a bit the coloring is wearing off, the coloring was only on the outside of course. Overall I find myself not cooking a whole lot when camping. Around here in the summer I don't want hot food and in the winter I am more interested in hot coffee or something rather than hot food. |
