I currently have a sweetwater that I really like, but saw this on REIs website www.rei.com/product/767564 and I'm pretty tempted. Its supposed to pump faster and weigh less. Any of you able to give an AAR? |

Don't have any first hand experience with the Hyperflow but here is some info I found out about it when I resarched it the past year or so. It appears to be an excellent design for a lightweight hand held pump filter. It does not remove viruses so you would have to use a secondary means of treatment isuch as drops or tabs if you suspect viruses. Here are a few pros and cons I found. It is very new and there are only a few first hand reviews on the net. Pros: It uses hollow core fiber as the filtering element. It is the same filter media as used in Kidney Dialysis. The lightweight fiber element is the basis of the light weight. The few reviews say that it is significantly faster at filtering water than most others although MSR's rating at 2.75 liters per minute of course will depend on water quality. Some of the reviews say that the flow rate is overstated but still faster than ceramic filters. It is smaller and lighter than most hand held pump filters and therefore may be worth it's weight in gold for those that lightweight hikers. It comes with a pre filter that should remove the larger particles and reduce clogging as quickly. Cons; The fibers can break if exposed to freezing temperatures. It does not remove chemicals such as fertilizers ect. as a carbon or ceramic filter element would. It is so new, long term reviews are not available as yet. Full-Auto |
| I don't have any knowledge of that water filter, but I do own a Katadyn Vario and I love it. I put it through the paces to see what it could handle and it performed the way they said it would. I bought it for my bob, which makes it perfect b/c its so light at 15 oz. It has 3 filters, a glassfibre , ceramic and a charcoal filter, and filters down to .03 microns. It has 2 ouputs depending on the water source(clearity), 2 quarts/min, or 2l/min and up to 530 gallons before filter change. |
