Well, I started my BOB. I went to a local army surplus/sporting good store and Cabelas and picked up a few items.
My bag, pretty good size but I will have to see if its big enough. I guess I have to start somewhere.
Fire starter
100ft paracord
emergency blanket
Katadyne Guide water filter
can openers
Let me know what you think, be gentle please

What are you guys using for camp stoves? Pictures/links?
THANKS!!!!

great stuff, ditch the packing materials (dead weight)... get a canteen and at least some peanut butter crackers =)

Yes, the packaging is going. Have some zip locs to throw most of the stuff in. This is just my start for today. I have some racing stuff that I am selling so that money will go toward some MREs/Mountain Home foods and some sort of stove.

Finish loading it up and take it for a 3-day romp in the wilderness at your local State/National park or something.  Include 10miles/day of hiking.  I guarantee you'll ditch a few things and add a few others (no matter what you packed)

Boy you have restraint.

I can't receive in a UPS shipment without opening it and trying it out.

Like I say, I started my BOB. Its coming slowly. I can only spend so much when mother nature lets me work 1 or 2 days a week.
I need some ideas on stoves.

Jetboil is pretty nice. About the size of a Nalgene bottle and boils water in a little under 90 seconds. I was able to make mashed potatoes and chicken in the same time it took for my friend to go into Mcdonalds and order a cheeseburger and get back to the car.

Now the Jetboil concept is really for just boiling water so you would want to center your meal choices around that. ie pasta dishes, rice, macaroni, instant potatoes. etc...

I like the foil packed chicken or tuna. dump it into your pasta or potatoes and your good to go.

I dont know what I would do without you guys. I can sit here and read all day and learn til my eyes bug out. As you can see Im on here quite a bit today, hence, mother nature is being a bitch and cutting in to my money earning.
I appreciate you guys answering my questions.

I did hit the local grocery store and bought a few things. Its just a start. I will probably add and subtract things as I go.

Check out the MSR International for a stove.  I have taken it backpacking a number of times and it is very lightweight and compact.  It will run on white gas, kerosene or unleaded auto fuel
