Every Damn Survival Guru who posts a video on Youtube never has extra socks and underwear in their back-pack??? Not for nothing, and I will thank uncle sam, you should always have extra socks and underwear. Once your feet get wet and cold your done. At least you can put a dry pair of socks on while your drying your boots by air or fire. Just my 10 second rant. Excuse me.

Oh yea and they always have those damn magnesium fire starters. Put a god damn bic or two in your pack.

Bics fail. I had one in a box at work for about a year. Went to use it and it could not spark. I don't know what failed on it but it just didn't work.

I'm always amazed at the way they never take care of their feet.  Always blistered up before they decide to do anything about it.  "Hot spots" are what we call a "clue", even Tenderfoot Scouts know that!

I've experience catastrophic failures with a couple of Bics too many for my liking. This sin't to say that I don't like lighters- I carry a Zippo and have a refillable butane in the toolbox for doing paracord- but I always carry a Doan Bar or firesteel (the Doan bar has mag and firesteel- best of both) to back it up.

Yeah, fire starters are a backup to a backup. Extra socks are pretty much a must have.

You only have one pair of socks, you're gonna have blisters, fungus, ect. and won't be walking for long.

Ditto on that. It just amazes me they never have extra socks. When I go for hunting trips , vacations etc... I always have more under wear and socks than needed. Even when I go on a one day hunt I carry extra pair of socks. Maybe I'm a little off on the bic thing, but I have never had one fail.

I always carry extra socks, toenail clippers, small bottle foot powder, and molskins.

Have had a toenail impacted while deployed and it hurt like a mother. Ended up loosing the nail. Learned my lesson.

I have got one of the magnesium things in my fire start kit right beside the bic and some matches. Both will get used first before the metal gadget gets pulled out.

Get a bic wet and tell me how long it takes you to get a fire going.
Good lighters but get them wet and you are screwed till it dries out.

I learned from college bugging out that multiple pairs of britches are necessary. Lived for a week without a shower or power durign Ivan. But none of the girls could complain that I smelled bad cause we all did

I've noticed this too.  They never carry footpowder, either.
How much walking do they really do?

If you ever meet someone in the woods who says they spend
lots of time outdoors, look at their footwear.

Are underwear really noxiously?

I've done the commando thing since basic.
