Well I was building a bike trailer today so I can haul the little guy when me and the boss lady go riding . I stumbled across this when I was looking for tongue weight formulas A little more then I thought I figured Id share this here because it showed me more then I thought you can do with a bike. Plus it wouldnt take alot to get the US on bikes , 5-6 a gal gas would make me tempted to make the small weekly runs to the grocery store on bike . |

I have a trek two kid trailer, it is rated for 120 lbs cargo, but it has taken over 150 with no effect that I can tell. I have no doubt that a properly designed trailer can haul a big load, but once off paved surface, that weight gets heavy fast. When you get your trailer, make sure you buy a second bike hitch for it, my wife and I each have a hitch, so we can trade off without having to exchange the actual bikes. |
Excellent. When you said build, I assumed assemble. You should look at real hitches, though. The best fit onto the rear axle under the bolt, and the trailer end is shaped like a ball hitch, but small. The setup is reverse of a motor vehicle design. With the good ones you can lay the bike down without unhitching. |
