I was at China-Mart today and ran across a Solar powered 12LED lantern (Ozark Trail). It cost $25.
I was curious if any of you have used this and if it is worth getting.

Thanks

I have eyeballed it too.

For the money I always left it sitting there and just spent the coin on more lamp oil.

ETA:
BTW...someone in another thread once mentioned their neighbors in hurricane territory used the solar powered lawn lights people use to light their walks and driveways for emergency lighting. You can get several of them for $25 and they serve a dual purpose. I like stuff like that.

Ive seen eh LED lawn lights. They dont seem to be bright enough unless you have a cluster of them.

Was eyeballing that last trip to walmart. Before laying the jack down would like a few firsthand AAR on it though.

I have no experience with the light but everything I have used made by Ozark Trail sucked.

I thought about a solar light, but just could not see it as being very useful compared to alot of other options. For $23 I can buy a non-solar LED lantern and a tremendous amount of batteries. I actually spent alot more, and got a solar panel, rechargeble AA batteries and charger that plugs into the solar panel.

You are right! They are not very bright.
Now look at this way,
The power is out, maybe for weeks, your setting in total darkness.
You light a match, seam very bright to all that darkness.
You put one lawn light or so, in each room you are using.
Maybe one out by the latrine.
They are not bright, so they will not draw attention to you.
Great for kids, who may be scared anyway, or fear the darkness.
You should have a source of brighter light.
I like for short term, a few weeks, propane lights.
No spilling of fuel, no pumping.
Anyone can use it.

PITA45

PS I have oil lamps as will as liquid fuel lights as well.

Target is carrying the new Rock River LED lantern - it now has a high & low mode (rather than the strobe function) - it's pretty nice, and was $20 at my local Target.

i bought some from harbor freight just for this reason. they take a single doubles a rechargeable battery. i like this because in a day i can recharge my other batteries by inserting them and flipping the off and on switch to off so they wont turn on. it does recharge my battery in one day and i don’t have to use a generator to do this

they are only single light led but if you remove the housing witch just snaps off it will project a beam good enough to see by and if you leave the housing on you can read by it.

just remember that this isn’t a tactical surefire and you will be fine.

i have a couple of these and i love them for both emergency and yard security lights
hers the link to the ones i have www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=91055

I read a review on those that gave it high marks. A local Tarchaa didn't have any in stock but I'll keep looking.

The Ozark Trail stuff has yet to impress me.
