WW3 is imminent, where to begin prepping? (Page 3 of 3)
| I would start with spiritually. Repentance and forgiveness through Jesus. The safest place to be is in the middle of God's will. With what you are talking about there are so many unknowns but God knows. |

I am not reading through all of this, so sorry if I’m being redundant on some points. This is a massive topic to take into consideration. I would split it into two parts… The first part would be how to prepare for predictable wartime shortages with relative security being maintained in the homeland. Part two would be dealing with much more serious shortages and attacks/security concerns. As far as the first part, I would take time to go through everything that is used on a normal day-to-day basis and try to stock up for at least a year. There would be thousands of things on the list but things like batteries, any kind of wire or cable made from copper, extra motor oil, spare parts and spare tires for the vehicles, cookware, lighters, paper, pencils, pens, lightbulbs, tape, nails and screws, hand tools, power tools, lumber, gardening supplies, gasoline, diesel, fuel, propane and kerosene, paper towels, toilet paper, disinfectant cleaners, dish soap, trash bags, I think you get my point. As far as the second point, there will be some overlap with the first point, but I would say the very most important thing that somebody can do is to get the hell away from cities and population centers. If you do not have the ability to buy and improved land, I would try to see if there is a friend or family that would allow you to join them, but I would be sensitive to being a asset proposition and not a liability proposition. Outside of this, you probably know all the basics. Everybody needs a good concealed carry handgun w/ a good holster, weapon light, extra magazines, good defensive ammo and a lot of training. Everybody needs a fighting carbine of good quality, weapon light, red dot, sling, lots of magazines and all the other support material and training and the knowledge of how to use it. It’s not a bad idea to have a plate carrier that can be run slick under a shirt and easily converted to overt to carry more equipment. Studying the AO, knowing alternate routes, having a map and compass, having alternate communication options in case cell phones go down and the Internet goes down. One of the most important prep to have is a good amount of clean water on hand and more importantly multiple different ways to acquire and treat more water. Second most important would be a good amount of food on hand, and just like the water, a plan to be able to acquire/make more. As much medical training as you can get as well as supplies to treat injuries and sick. Antibiotics. Supplies, hardware, materials, tools and the knowledge to repair structures and build new basic structures if needed. Lots of different ways to start fires and cook without electricity. Again there are entire books written on this. Speaking of that I would also stock up on books that contain useful knowledge. Lots of books. Power will also be out or intermittent, so I would have a plan in place for this. Obviously a discreet solar set up with a large battery bank and inverter would be very nice to have. At a minimum, some of the larger solar generators could be charged during the day and used at night. Generators are an important option but make noise and will eventually run out of fuel. On this topic it would also be a good idea to understand how everything works and how everything is powered in your house and have a plan to deal without power. A simple example would be having battery powered fans to sleep at night in the summer and a way to preserve vegetables and meat without the need for refrigeration. Anyway, I would say at minimum try to focus on the most immediate needs which are location, water, food, any kind of medication and medical needs anyone has, basic defense, communication and a plan. The other thing that is important to keep in mind is that a lot of this stuff takes a lot of time and money to acquire and become proficient at. You cannot just buy a $100 emergency backpack kit at Costco and expect to deal with Long-term and/or serious challenges. |

So it's been a little bit since this was first posted. Those that felt/feel like things are imminent, what ACTIONS have you taken on this? |

I never have really felt like thins were imminent, but always a possibility. The only thing I have specifically done outside of my normal ops is to go from 1~2 years of oil changes on hand to 3+ because of the group 3 base shortage that we might have to deal with. Nothing earth shattering but little things here and there as a hedge. Also stocked up on a few spare gun parts in recent months. Not really because imminent anything, more because there seems to be so many decent deals for basic mil spec stuff. If nothing else a hedge against wanting or needing something in the future for a better price today and it's always nice to have spare stuff on hand. When ordering something I want, I add a few extra small parts to put in my gun toolbox. With that being said it's easy to go overboard so I need to stop at this point. Another real-world note, my last reply was on firewood and in coming months it will be that time again. I was unlucky enough to injure the tendons in my wrist which has left me one handed for the past few weeks. It would be very challenging to do anything firewood wise if I had to so another reason to make hay when conditions allow and not wait. If I needed firewood right now, I would be a hurting unit. I am still about 3 weeks out before I would even attempt to run a chainsaw outside of an emergency situation. |

sorry about your hand lowdown. I screwed my knee so if SHTF today I would be hurting Right now I don't think WW3 is in liniment. That could change of course what is interesting, aside from the lone wolf attacks why hasn't there been more organized attacks?? We know there are cells in country |

I think the lone wolf attacks have definitely been somewhat afilliated and probably been more of then we realize or news will report. Kinda like how so much on 9/11 was re-historized after the fact. |

That could change of course what is interesting, aside from the lone wolf attacks why hasn't there been more organized attacks?? We know there are cells in country We don’t know there are cells in the US. We have theorized there are cells in the US. One of the issues terrorist organizations will have if they were to send “cells” to the US to wait for the signal….what happens to them while waiting for the signal? The reality is, some people might say they want to come to the US to be a sleeper cell. They get here and decide “things are pretty good here. I don’t think I want to fuck that up” and the sleeper cell stays asleep. Maybe they get married…have some kids. Yeah I’d stay asleep too. A few random loser true believers do take action. Most of the ones who take action, are outcasts and losers in their personal lives so they can feed their ideology (less important) while becoming infamous (far more important to people like that). I’d love to know more about how Osama Bin Laden selected the hijackers. I’d be willing to bet they were VERY carefully vetted for proper dedication/ideology before being sent to the US. Remember, they were being sent to their death but they were here for quite awhile getting flight training….knowing all along they were training for their own deaths. Now THAT is hard core. People in other countries may say they hate the US but may of them really just want to be us. If you’ve heard how evil the US is but then get here and discover it’s pretty awesome here, it’s hard to keep wanting to be a suicidal terrorist. It would be far more effective to send a dedicated team with a specific mission (like the 911 hijackers) than a cell who is told “live your life but wait for the go signal and then go die gloriously” |

Life in the USA is pretty damn good even for those who put forth little effort to thrive. With some slight effort you can have all the necessities of life, and more "on demand." Click a button and bam, food shows up. Swipe some plastic and you get a nice clean room with unlimited hot showers. Hell, commit a crime and you can get clothed, fed, housed and educated. Be poor and .gov will give you more. Not a bad place to flop out if thats all you want to do right? |

Been prepping for decades. Really struggled whether to reply or not. The reality of being prepared is years of work and money. Besides piles of stuff you need to acquire SKILLS and then PRACTICE!!! Living in an HOA or inside city limits will never allow you to have what you need. Sure you can be armed, stockpile ammo, non-perishable food, H2O, basic medical and hygiene, etc etc etc. Only really helpful if a disaster is limited to a handful of days. Lights still on, water still coming out of the faucets, and people not too hungry; everyone generally plays nice. A disaster can be anything that screws up your life. Injury, home fire, home flooded, loss of income, ebola outbreak, nuke, etc etc. So a disaster really defined by how big of an area is affected and for how long. Millions of casual gun owners, hunters, LEO, and folks with military training. What parent can stand there and watch a family member starve or suffer. Humans have dominated the planet because of our brains and hands. About 340 million people in the United States. An untrained housewife can kill you with a hammer if properly motivated. How about a teenager with a baseball bat or a kitchen knife? Desperate and fearful humans are dangerous. Reality #1 move to as secure a location as you can. Lengthy commutes, looking for new jobs, lack of variety for shopping, saying goodbye to neighbors you like? All part of the deal. Just do it. It can take a while to find a place and move, so continue to work on your supplies and skills while looking. Reality #2 Vast majority of people are talkers. Choose wisely who you depend on. Spent years building relationships and rapport with people in my life. There are only a handful who I trust the lives of my family with. Reality #3. There is no finish line to win the race. There is no magic number of guns, chickens, cans of beans, barbwire, raised bed gardens, etc that equals success. Being prepared is an ongoing process and constant improvement. Example: Maybe you can only afford a smaller place and a 30 minute commute outside of city limits. But in ten years of saving and prepping you can upgrade to a bigger and more secure location in ten years. Sucks moving but I've done it multiple times as my situation and opportunities improved over the years. Current location on a great piece of land with everything we need. Thought I would be here until I died. But now looking for an alternate location farther out. What used to be fairly remote now is no more. Have had a huge population surge. |
