I have been looking at buying some property, preferably a small house, somewhere outside of the city. This would be a place that I could use for weekends, vacations and bug out. Well, I had a place that I was really interested in. Small house, within two hours, small town, looked good. So I went on google maps and started scouting routes to get from where I am to where this place was. I discovered that there is a big cat refuge 5 miles from my target location. Looking into it more and I found that they keep about 20 tigers, several lions and some other large cats there as well.
Probably not a good idea to head that way. If those cats get out and get hungry then it would not be good. Pro Tip: Mark sure that you don't have places that would increase your risk of being eaten near your bug out location.

As long as I knew they were in the vicinity and could plan accordingly, big cats wouldn't bother me a bit. As s2s pointed out, the gates aren't going to magically open when the world goes further into shit. |

No, it will be the tree hugger that "sets them free". Quoted:

Why is the assumption that cats would magically escape their enclosure in a SHTF and not die of dehydration/starvation in their cages? OP this is what will make SHTF interesting as we won't have to go to africa for big game hunts. |

You don't think FPETA person will go free all the oppressed animals? OP this is what will make SHTF interesting as we won't have to go to africa for big game hunts.

http://screencrush.com/442/files/2016/10/walking-dead-shiva-photo-pic.jpg Weren't you planning on dealing with warlords post-SHTF? This could be you!! Now, a wolf rescue would be more to my liking. Also, you misunderstood my response in the other thread. I was saying that if there was a lights out scenario, as that OP proposed, then you would quickly see organized brutality (gangs and warlords) rather than a peaceful return to simpler times. |

Hasn't been an issue for us or a bazillion other folks, mostly... You've got bigger and more dangerous issues to worry abt like mosquitos and ticks... |

Every now and then someone lets a big cat loose or something, I like the articles hitting general discussion cause then everyone needs a 375h&h or a fal or something for kitty duty.
I can't decide why, but I don't think I would care about a furball rescue being in the area. I would have a larger issue with being near memphis. I live in tn so I use what I know for keeping me in lots of job security. |

| If you are talking about the one out in Boyd, they have lions, tigers and bears too. I have a friend that does volunteer Vet doc work out there with some of their animals from time to time. It is a well run place and I doubt they would ever turn those cats loose in SHTF. Not saying someone else wouldn't but when they take in a rescue animal the idea is that is where it will live out the rest of it is natural life. Its a pretty cool place to take a tour in the spring or fall when the animals are more active. In the summer time they tend to just hunker down in the shade during the heat of the day. |
