Looking forward to seeing it, it has been done a couple times before I think. Did they mention that a young Jim Bridger was one of those who left him behind?

Outstanding movie. Leo was incredible.

Yeah. Leo deserves at lesser a AA Nomination. I'm not a fan but he was incredible.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but judging from the trailer this might be one of his best works.

It's a bit of a deviation from the real story (although in a very entertaining and cinematic way). If you want a closer account but still enjoyable novel you should read "Lord Grizzly" by Frederick Manfred.

It's been a while since I read it, but I seem to remember that Vardis Fisher borrowed bits and pieces for Mountain Man too.

It was consensual.  The bear is playing the law suit lottery.

OK, fair enough,  but did the bear give present Leonardo with a signed acquiescence? If not maybe there is a case.

I'd like to see that movie but my dislike of Dicapprio's insane politics and support for leftists don't allow me to spend my money in support of him.  I am sure it will be out on Youtube in a year or so....

Would it be appropriate for a 14 year old boy?  I'm really not worried about violence--unless very graphic-- or a little bit of foul language.

Lots of graphic violence.
Plus possibly consensual ursine sex.

The bear did rape him,  in about the only way a sow with cubs can.  That scene triggers PTSD.

Great movie. Not for kids though...not so much the violence, but there is one scene that made me feel uneasy...that said, Leo deserves an Oscar for this. A great piece of acting, right up there with Blood Diamond.

I would like to take a few moments to check the male privilidge and discuss the heterocage that Grizzly has suffered.

The Cubs are obvious signs that the sow was subjected to animalistic Grizzly PIV rape. Upon discovering another aggressive and hairy male mammal of the woods with a large protruding phalus shaped object, she responded to protect herself and her cubs. Clearly not wanting to escalate the situation, she was manipulated by her assaulter into believing he wasn't a threat, at which time she was again penetrated and raped by the aforementioned large phalus. When she tried to defend herself, the mammal, of another species mind you, proceeded to penetrate and rape her with a second smaller phalus. This attack proved fatal.

someone I worked with also said she heard a rumor that there is a bear rape scene...wtf, having seen the movie this weekend, I have no idea where this comes from.  If by rape they mean getting mauled, then yes.  Probably one of the best scenes in the movie, if it was cgi it was very well done.

There was no rape.

Or bear fucking.

People who only see animals in zoos or nat geo came up with this crazy idea.

Imho it was sterotypical bear mauling.

If people consider that rape(a sow raping a man at that)its no wonder the worlds going to shit.

Over all its a good film.

If youve seen any of the mountainman/frontier movies over the lazt 30+ years youll be familar with how it goes.

Violence wise its no worse than last of the mochicans..imho does have a few extra bits of graphic/extreme violence/gore.

Aka seeing a guy eat a fish alive....or blood flowing from a wound. But nothing super crazy...it aint a bruce campbell zombie flick.

Wasnt over dramatic..and the action scenes were gritty and fast..lots of stuff to soak in. Think saving private ryan. Your watching a main character but lots going on around him/them to take notice of.

Ill prolly purchase it and add it to the pile.

Unless the definition of rape changed, I'm pretty sure there was a scene where a girl got raped. While I don't believe in shielding my kids from the harsh realities of history, I like to limit that kind of stuff. Either way, it was a fantastic film with great acting and some of the best scenery I've ever seen. Oh and this film reinforced my belief that North East Georgia is where I will die one day - I have absolutely no desire to see any place that gets that damn cold! haha

Tom Hardy deserves an Oscar.  Decaprio not so much; just groaning and spittle.  The CGI bear stuff sucked from the second the first cub appeared on screen.  It was very obvious and totally removed me from the story.

The scene with Glass walking across the frozen lake bugs me.

Why wouldn't he stick to the treeline and get some shelter from the wind? Nothing he wanted to do could be made better by walking across the middle like that.

Liked the movie a lot. Dicaprio did a good job. The guy just pissed me when young, something about his whiny voice or something but the older he gets the better hes become as an actor IMO. The bear attack scene was very well done, rest of the movie, outstanding as well. Worth watching.
