| Shallow well. The water is pumped up into the house through those lines. The one on the right (the shiny one) is the new line that I hooked up after the pic was taken. The one pointing more or less straight up is a very old line that fed into a cistern that once supplied the house. The other line is the one I replaced that fed into the pump/tank in the house. It's hard to seen in the pic but there is a pipe running down into the water. |

How old is the well? I wonder the technique used to dig and line it. Interesting -thanks! |

Interesting -thanks! Nothing wrong with the pipes, I'm putting a new porch on over the old line and, sure as hell, I'll put the last nail in the porch and I'll have a leak somewhere in the line. So I'm just being pro-active. Frost line is 42", the old pipes are about eight feet down, the new one is about six at the well and four at the house. I think the house was built in the early 20's, the deed goes back to 1848, but I don't know how old the well is. |

So 15 feet of water. Have you ever come close to draining it? Any idea on a fill rate in the well? Have you ever messed around in the bottom to see if there were any "treasures"? Really cool. I wish I had one in my basement. This is about 25 feet from the house. I know there are a couple of pipe wrenches in the bottom. There is a 4" concrete cap so it's kind of a pain to mess with, if there is any treasure down there it is staying.
The table is very stable here, I've had the cap off a few times and the level is always the same. Running the pump doesn't pull enough water to change the level. There is another identical well out by my barn I installed a hand pump on. |

You guys and your shallow wells just kill me. Mom's is 240' deep, my little brother's is 220' Yikes, guessing you don't pull those by hand. Pulling a submersible pump with 240' of pipe on it was a chore for my little brother and me. |
