I was just watching a YouTube video about tool kits for bicycle riding when the guy stated he keeps a spare bill inside his phone case.  The next time I go to the bank I'm going to get a $100 bill, as I usually only have $20's from the ATM.  Then the next time I take my Otterbox case apart to clean it, I think I'll see if I can stash the $100 in there before I put it back together.

This may have been brought up here before, but I had never heard or thought of it, so I thought I'd pass it along.

My phone is a heck of a lot more likely to get stolen (or accidentally left at home) than my wallet.

$500 in $20 bills, along with a spare car key and a few blank checks - all sealed in Mylar:

Tucked in a dark corner of a billfold, it's barely noticeable.

I guess I don't understand why you would put money in your phone case....

I like the idea, but I would keep it to a $20. It'll hurt less if it's stolen. That being said, I go more places with my phone than I do with my wallet.

If I was going to do that, I would probably keep it to a $20 and a few $1's. Vending machines, etc

i almost think i would rather keep it in a shoe or something along those lines.

I'm with Skibane, though I don't seal it... some 100s and a couple of blank checks tucked in between seldom used ID cards in a my Maxpedition wallet... my spare key used to be attached to the frame of the car with a wing nut, but on the latest car with electronic door locks, rides in a pill vial in the glove compartment along with a thumb drive of the important documents....

Good luck spending a 100 bill at a convenience store... the most likely place it would NEED to be spent.

It sort of depends on what you expect to do though, having a bike shop drive out with a new wheel might warrant a 100 dollar bill.  A couple cans of soda and parts to make an alcohol stove... not so much.

What if your car battery dies? No way to get to it to fix it. I would still keep a spare outside of the locked areas. I just had battery issues. Two different testers said my battery was good, but the battery ran down over a day so I couldn't start it. (gotta love those jump start boxes)

The key on the outside doesn't have to be the coded key, if applicable. Just a plain old key.

On spare vehicle keys, the widespread application of 'chipped' ignition keys is actually a good thing for the hiding of spares. A person can keep a non-chipped key hidden on the vehicle nowadays, that even if a bad guy finds it, won't let them start the car. They can still unlock the doors & trunk if they find your spare, but the non-chipped spare at least won't let them drive away with your vehicle.

On the money in the phone case, I'd agree with the $20's denominationally. My phone case is for a Flir camera, with a cutout hole in the back and not a lot of spare room. I could maybe get one bill in there - maybe...

Comes in handy if you forget your wallet, or it is lost or stolen.

Works like a  champ. Can be hard to have them made because the key maker drone will keep telling you it wont work. When you tell them "thsts the idea" you will see a solid look of confusion.

It has a sliding back compartment.

Enough room for DL, credit card or two and some cash.

I kept 100 bucks in the e-brake release(by my left knee) in my automatic car. If I had a phone case, keeping emergency money would be a good idea.

I'm all for having some emergency cash, but your phone is one of those things that a)is likely to get stolen along with your wallet if mugged b) is likely ot get lost c)Is kind of a mess to get out of an otterbox case when needed in a hurry. Maybe hidden in your belt, or in some hidden jacket pocket would make more sense.

to add to FerFal's comment... I was stationed in Japan and the Philippines with some TDY to Thailand and Okinawa in the early 70s, and the hot set up was a Thai elephant hide money belt... copy machines were not that plentiful, so we made copies of birth certificates and orders (with security clearances) on slide film in case we needed to get into a US Consulate ... kind of a DIY microfiche... at that time a $20 US would get you a ride most anyplace...the bar girls kept their di di mao worth in the form of baht bracelets of removable charms of a fixed weight of gold... there are several money belts on the market similar to this one from AeroStitch

I've been keeping a spare $20 in my phone case for years.  It's an easy place to ensure you always have emergency cash on you.

Could it get stolen, yes.  But the purpose is to have emergency cash, not a hiding spot.
