So - we have a screened 20' x 40' "cook shack" with a couple surrounding small buildings for storage/pantry, etc. Dedicated power supply. We have wi-fi with decent speed, radio antenna and router, but no computer out there. I would like to hear some camera/software/hardware options that would allow me to keep tabs remotely. I don't think I need a constantly rolling dvr system, but would like cams set to motion for stills or video that would alert me via text or something. Minimum of 3 cams for interior and exterior. Only 2 means of ingress/egress and both have power. Might also consider some drive way alerts that would que us to check the cameras. Thanks in advance. |

Do you have line of sight to the target location? Need to save minutes on the existing wifi or not have to use a WAN IP address to connect?
If so, you can get 2 Ubiquity Bullet wifi radios and create an 'internet' bridge. Then you can connect alarms, cameras, etc, with little effort. The radios mentioned cost ~$87 each on ebay, are a tremendous bargain and resource and easy to use. They will work 20 miles if you need to with the proper antenna and line of sight path. |

Read the thread on the security cams. Good pictures are important. Messing with cheap cameras or cheap trail cams will let you learn a lot, you especially learn you spent a hundred or two hundred on something that you now want to replace for several hundred dollars or more so the pics are more detailed and useful. I have always liked how expy posts pics of the temps for his stuff out at the bear's playground and think it is worth the time to see exactly what he posted way back when I asked about it, I forget the answer or I would post that. But the security thread has pics and examples and really covers a lot, including the driveway detectors and alerts and everything. |

Man I love this sub forum..thanks for the quick replies.
The wi-fi is in range of the "driveway alert" locations. I own the tower that serves the system. 180' guyed wire tower about 1.5 miles away. One of the cell carriers broke a lease and forgot about the small print.
Not very techy here. I've read through the monster alarm thread. I've also read through hundreds of pages of ham radio stuff and still am not a ham operator. I'm just looking for a simple solution to check up on my camp. We are 10 minutes away if we need to show or invite the man. My thought is to receive a text/email and check the cams/alert to confirm friendly presence. |

Sadly, you lost me a bit. We have solid wifi. Radio antenna shoots to a tower we have. So, I guess we have line of sight from my antenna to the tower... |
