I am considering buying the Harbor Freight 2500/2200 Inverter generator.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Is it reliable?

What do you need/want to run?  How many watts do you need to do what you want?

Not enough info to make any informed advise.

Just as a back up to my larger generator. I am also looking to have some clean (Inverter) power for electronics--maybe run a small camper at times if there is no power.

Only has a 90 day warranty - and Harbor Freight isn't all that great about supplying replacement parts.

You might take a look at the Champion Power Equipment inverter models - They have a 2-year warranty, and CPE enjoys a good reputation for build quality and service after the sale.

Check SuperGen Products for decent prices on them, including refurbs.

Agree with this post.  I would buy a Champion inverter generator before buying a HF generator.

I recently picked up an 8500 W generator from Northern Tool for just under $2000. It has a Honda engine.

I haven't had a moment to fire it up yet, but it comes with electric start and is extremely well-built.

Definitely worth looking at, IMO...

Cheap genny and inverters don't make reliable power. They are sometimes rated for a higher amount than they will really produce. I don't think this is on purpose, they're just cheap.

Ive had several. Enough to know what a pita it is to have one vibrate itself to death, pop its own breaker over and over with little to no load, stall out over nothing, die in the middle of the night for no apparent reason, etc etc..

Spend a little extra and buy a name brand. They're not that much more in relation to what your refrigerator will cost to replace after your cheap inverter burns out the reefer compressor.

I dropped the cake on a Honda 6500 and never looked back.

My two pesos. Your results may vary
