Does anyone have experience storing 10-15gal of gasoline in less than ideal conditions? Seems like fuel would be the perfect thing to stash for a vehicle run to the BOL.

I have some ratty, but functional MFC's that I picked up at garage sales and flea markets over the years (PA CARB laws ) The better ones will stay at the house and in more frequent rotation.

Any special considerations for burying the cans or is there a better vessel I should be looking at?

(forgot to mention, I have a manual fuel pump to get fuel out below grade)

That could be the ticket! Thanks!

I'm hesitant to use the MFC's, even the beat up ones, because they are a pain to get in PA.

Works great for the lawn tractor and snow blower.  I need to change out the hose parts so to getj an extra foot out of it to be able to use it for the cars in case of emergency.

Not exactly what you asked for but I keep fuel here at the house this way.
Its a 275 gallon tank
Its under a shed to help aid in the cooling of the fuel and condensation that could build in the tank.
Its on a 12 volt pump, and its filtered.

I fill the big tank with this 100 gallon tank, I slide it in my pickup empty, Go fill it up a few times and i'm thru.
I store nothing in this tank, I transport with it only.

I got a bunch of these also.

I use this type gasoline.

You can bury mfcs. Just have someway to clean the neck/cap when you dig them up.a old paint brush will work.

My personal favorite. Beer keg with 2" tri clamp and viton oring.  You can bury them-roll
t them around, more sturdy than a old oil barrel.i

I have almost the exact same setup!  (See my post in the "what have you done to prep today thread") and I keep my 5 gal. cans below that.  The only bad thing I can think of is that damn tank gets HEAVY when I put it up on the rack.  And the hose flopping around while transporting it is annoying as well.  It's a decent unit- the cap has a good cork gasket, and the hose tap is not directly on the bottom so you don't flow debris and water down the fuelling hose.  Still thinking about trading it for 3 or 4, 5 gallon cans.

How many gallons does that hold?

This thread is relevant to my interests. I'm looking for a way to store gasoline on my farm, getting tired of 5 gallon jugs. Need something that will hold 20-30 gallons about four feet off the ground.

Yep.

Every vehicle in my extended family has a 18-25 gallon gas tank. No tank is ever allowed to drop below the half-empty mark.

So, every vehicle has at least 9-12 gallons of reasonably fresh gas in it, at all times - for a combined total of at least 50 gallons.

Although some of that gas might be needed for transportation during an emergency, I can't drive more than one vehicle at once - which means that plenty of gas is still held in reserve.

Rated to 15 gallons.  However if it is empty and you try to fill it with three 5 gallon cans you will have some extra.   The can under is the "IF YOU USE THIS GAS, YOU GO TO THE GAS STATION ASAP!" reserve gas.

Also, use PRI-G in your stored gas. I have used it for years, works fantastic. I have used it to traet a 240 gallon tank that had "gone bad", no small engines would run on the stuff even though it was only a year old.. poured in a bottle of PRI-G, agitated, let sit over night. That gas was good as new the next day.

What is a tri-clamp?  I have a few old kegs so I'm very interested in this idea.

I have mentioned these before, but the racing fuel cans could be a good option.

Last 3 I saw on craigslist were $15. Metal and held 12 gallons. Small enough to still be somewhat portable but big enough to be worth filling.

They have a screw plug and I'm sure many of the hand pumps will fit the opening.

sorry it took so long

2" tri clamp

use a Dash Number 417 viton oring

it will clamp on like this but with only a cap, not all the other connections unless you want to have them
