I wasn't sure how to title this but basically I'm curious if anyone has any systems worked into any part of their preps that utilizes your sense of touch as a labeling system?

It came to me tonight at work.  In my backpack I basically have a series of shopping bags with different things in them (food, contacts/glasses, etc.).  And at the bottom of the bag is my ccw bag.  Now in an emergency (read active shooter or traumatic injury) I need to be able to grab the carry handle, rip it out of the backpack and then put it over my shoulder.  I'd like to have another indicator for the cord pull/zipper that goes to the gun.  It would make for operating a little easier under pressure I'd think.

But that's just an example.  I can think of others where I'd rather have the option to use my hands than my eyes.

Anyone have any such things worked into their gear?

Thanks

How about using shapes as a tag if you are not able to visibly see the labeling and are using only a sense of touch?

For example a cross shape for medical, an arrow shape for a weapon kit, a triangle for a shelter kit.

Of course these would need to be made a raised shape as like braille if you attach them to the side of a bag.

I see what you mean.  But that requires brushing over the surface without anything else in the way.  I want something that I can wave my hand around in the bag and as soon as I feel that texture I grab it and pull.  Same on the pull cord/zipper.

But good idea for general organization.  I like it.

You got me thinking and just trying to help

What about a rip cord system where the cords are attached inside at the top of the bag as a series like 1st 2nd 3rd? You would need to pack your gear in your bag in such a way that they wouldn't twist up the cord. Maybe a fret thing like a guitar has that separates the strings

I know guys who were using skateboard grip tape on their med supplies to help in knowing where to grab (placed on either side of tear tabs) and assist in opening in the dark with bloody hands.

You may be able to use grip tape in some way. Pretty cheap at a skateboard shop and comes in a variety of colors

Are you talking walmart plastic shopping bags?

I find they break down and rip out so I use em to bring the groceries home and with packing to move I use em for packing breakables.

I like bags and containers and I am trying to go to where X bag or container does Y job.  So the basic first kit in a vehicle or bag would be in the same style bag.

I could see making a "pull string" sort of setup for your ccw setup.  Run it up the side of the bag and as mentioned use knots or beads or something so you know that is what you have hold of and pull it out of the bottom of your bag.

And grip tape would work.

If using walmart bags you might want to use something like electrical tape or masking tape or something and basically just run a strip from the handle to the other handle going around the outside of the bag.

Sucks to have a bag break open and dump its contents out, especially if it is something you need.

I buy stuff like pencil keepers for school kids and other similar containers and bags when they go on sale because they can replace plastic bags and you can buy enough for each kit.
