Anyone seen it on the shelves yet?

Weak. It seems like the magazine exists as an advertising platform for all of its sponsors. Meh. The part about canning meat and bacon was the best part. Yep on the meat. That was the only reason I spent the cash. They had better pick it up id they expect people to keep dropping 9 BUCKS AN ISSUE!!!! Doc |

I see that I am not the only one that was disappointed with the latest issue. I would like to see less gear and more learning, like the canning article. Articles covering various medical equipment types and how to use them. The how to use them part is important. I mean an incomplete list of head lamps is nice(the southern way of saying useless, bless your heart) but not worth 9 dollars. I would rather see an article comparing how you would use headlamps vs flashlights vs chem sticks with when to use each and the advantages and disadvantages of each. Instead of a list of med kits you can buy, a list of common items then work through the items issue by issue on when and how to use them (hemostatic agents, airway clearing, etc). Lastly, I would like to see good AAR on various training or real situations.
I know the vendors of all that gear probably pay a hefty sum to be in there but they are not going to pay much if the readership goes to zero. |

I work, in part, in publishing.
At $9/issue a new publication is probably just barely staying afloat, and the gear-centered content is a result of this. It appeals broadly to a gadget oriented culture of consumers and the ad-buying vendors. With any luck as the magazine gains traction we'll see a shift in content toward information rather than product placement. |

I like the disaster survival stories. Read through them last night. Pretty good about when you are caught with you pants down, how people reacted. The police officer in Haiti during the major earthquake is a good example.
Almost a 'I survived' story, but interesting none the less with a touch of 'I wish I would have...' and 'Next time we did this....'. |

I don't doubt this at all, but, at least where I live, we are not a nine dollar magazine area. I can't justify it for one article. The way I see it, they are going to have to step up or figure a way to cut production costs. Don't get.me wrong.....I really hope they make it. I love the concept, I just don't buy an expensive magazine just for concept. Looking forward to seeing what they have to offer next. Lots of potential! Doc |

Maxim magazine for preppers, all fashion and fluff. Like the knife article, put a forty dollar knife next to a hundred and forty dollar blade but not explain why one is more expensive. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile the reason that is more expensive is that it costs more. |

I liked the second issue (and the first). A lot of the critique here is pretty harsh... this is a survival forum, so a lot of the folks here have been in this for a long time, and there's not a lot new under the sun. So there's a lot of "meh, I knew that already...". There was a lot of good info for people who haven't been into self-reliance/emergency preparedness for years and years, so I say "Bravo!". The articles were well-written, had much pertinent info, and presented well. I even like the ads... which is unusual for me.
I've been doing this for a long time myself, but I'll buy issue #3, and #4.... |
