I recently bought my GZ Nomad panel and Guide 10 pack. It's a nice little unit. Now I'm looking to maximize it's utility for a short term-ish SHTF situation...most likely just a power outage.
So far we can use our phones and gps with it. Plus because it can charge AA's we'll be able to do flashlights, radio's, etc. I'm going to be getting a lithium battery charger to add more juice to the cheap $4 cree light most of us bought. Any other ideas for devices that would be handy during a power outage and can be charged by USB? Thanks -Emt1581 |
| The n7 was my first panel. The instapark 10 for $40 on amazon/ebay is a far Better panel with more power. It will charge your device faster. Both work well in overcast conditions. The anker 14w panel was 60 on amazon but it does not work well in overcast conditions. But in full sun you'll have twice the juice than the gz nomad. I use them to run USB powered fans that i Mount to my baby's stroller. We live in central FL and have Disney passes. So we take him often and keep the Lil guy cool. |

I never saw another panel with such a pack. Now if the instapark or some other panel has this pack/capability, I'd say several AR/other forum members were asleep at the wheel because I was just about jumping up and down asking about panels for several months before deciding on the Nomad. See with that specific pack, I can charge batteries (AAA AND AA), the panel charges the pack, plus I can charge USB devices. Also has a light on it, not that it's a massive issue either way, just nice to have. So a USB fan? I've seen those. I guess in the summer they'd be nice to have. I usually get my small electronic stuff from www.DX.com. Any suggestions on specific models? Thanks -Emt1581 |

My guide 10 battery pack failed on me. They were supposed to send an envelope to send it back, but they never did. It quiet charging. I've burnt up 2 guide 10 packs. Gz had replaced both but not the thing to fail while your on the trail. So I carry a second 2AA/aaa USB charger made by rayovac. As for juice to charge of phones and what not a USB battery pack/bank holds more juice in the same size. In short GZ makes a average product but backs it with decent warranty. But the market better than anyone else. So while others make a better product you just never find out about them. I'd take my Instapark over my gz any day. |

Exactly...even when I specifically ask for them. Honestly though, I figure I'll give the GZ a shot for a year or so and see how it does. I only paid $55 for it with coopins/discounts/such. So I'm not out a ton of money if it does shit the bed. -Emt1581 |
