Sweet baby jebbus that's a lot of salt. Yeah, my doc would stroke out if she saw that. that's probably the highest amount I recall seeing in one.
With my hypertension, I limit myself to a single freeze dried meal per day when backpacking. That's really about all of that stuff I care to eat in a day anyway. |

Glad you had a 'pleasant' experience OP. I've tried several of the Backpacker's Pantry pouches and have been sorely disappointed with the vast majority of them. Mountain House is my flavor of choice, although there are a couple of their entrées that I'm not all that wild about. As always, YMMV. |

Same here, I prefer MH but their vegetarian friendly options are limited so I picked up Backpackers Pantry for the wife to try. She seems to like their Thai and Indian meals since they are super spicey. I like to keep a few weeks worth of lite weight shelf stable stuff that the wife can tolerate so she will not have to radically change her diet in the event of a short them shtf involving us having to go on a "camping trip" away from the house. I keep a good variety of rice and beans at the house though... atleast as much as I feel comfortable storing due to all of the moving the Army likes to have me do

Backpacker foods include a lot of salt on the basis that you are trekking with a backpack, and will sweat out the salt I don't think that assumption out of line. That is the reason they have so much sodium, but good God! 3700mg for the package? I know it's two servings, but most people I know scarf down both servings when on the trail. My only issue with the high sodium is the need for more water. You will flush it out during hard, high activity such as backpacking, but damn, that's a lot of sodium. We usually pack a meal or two of FD meals depending on the length of the trip, but we make our own as well. ROCK6 |

Maybe not in the deep south/southwest in the summer. Not at all true in the winter. In the summer, I've sweated so much MH and MREs didn't supply enough salt. |
