Anyone ever find out the best method to store pool shock for the long term?
Last I read there were doubts about certain methods......mylar, metal lids on mason jars, etc. I'd like to put it away in something better than the plastic bags. |

I tried Mylar originally....bag blew up like a balloon and the shiny metal coating on the bag deteriorated. I removed it from the Mylar and set the bags of shock on a piece of hardibacker on a shelf in my shed. They have remained this way for 5 or 6 years now without any noticeable problems.
I think this is one time where we tend to over think storage solutions. Keep it away from metals and other chemicals and leave it alone. At least, that's what I'm doing |

Maybe an available chlorine test to make sure it's held up over time? |

I put individual bags, that the pool shock comes in, into mason jars with metal lids.
The bags probably touch the metal lids, although I'd have to go look in the shed to verify that. Is that going to be an issue? I checked them last year. They were put away two or three years ago. They were fine when I last checked them. |
| Just leave them in the gamma seal bucket they come in from the pool store. Keep the bucket dry and out of the sun. I had a bucket of them for the pool that I forgot about hidden in the garage. It had to have been behind that sheetrock for three years and looked the same as any other bucket of chlorine when I used it. |

Mine came in plastic bags. The pool shock that I stored is still in the plastic bags.
16 ounces? I forget. They fit into a quart jar, but it's a snug fit. I have read the plastic bags degrade over time. The last time I checked the jars, when I took the lids off the chlorine(?) smell was quite strong. The plastic bags are not airtight. Moisture can get in, which is why I put them into jars. |
