Trying to fill up 1300 prepped .45 ACP cases. It's been a while since I've had to cast in this quantity, and my wrists aren't used to it. I'm using my new Lee 6 cavity 230 gr. Truncated Cone style bullet mold with a Lee 20 pound production pot, so quantity is a lot faster than a 2 cavity mold. Once I finally got the molds smoked up well, everything works pretty fine.
It's what's called vertical integration in business college. Now if I could just find a reliable source for bat guano and sulphur.

I started pouring my own about a year ago, and kick myself for not starting a helluva lot sooner.

I cast, sized/lubed and loaded 34,000  .45 the first year I got my Dillon 450 (pre 550)... make sure you follow the safety precautions... no smoking or eating, as all lead compounds are poisonous... wash your hands, and blow your nose...used two four cavity Saeco moulds....after 30+ years of practical competition my blood serum lead level is an 8....today I would recommend one of the polymer coated lead bullets from a commercial source... YMMV

I have only used Lee Liquid Alox for my casting. What are you all using?

Alox myself. No issues

I really like Delux Liquid X-lox. I first made some in the garage. After a small flash fire from melting Johnson Paste Wax I decided it was cheaper to just buy it

I love it!!  Only costs a buck or two per box of ammo!!

This is the main reason I slowed down my buying.  Except for rifle rounds...I still buy those.  Haven't mustered up the courage to start pouring there...plus I think you have to jacket them...and yes I've seen people use .22lr shells.  Not sure I could do it though.

For the smaller faster rifle calibers cast lead is possible but it takes some messing about to make it work.
On the other hand many calibers are a natural for cast lead . I have used 45/70 which really has no use for jacketed and I have loaded for most all my lever gun rounds (30-30 , 32ws ,38/55 )

I have also had a lot of fun with 30/06 . Pretty straight forward if you use heavier bullets 180gr and up and keep your velocity to 1800 fps or so.
I have a 03a3 Springfield and with a 190 cast it will shoot less than MOA . Yes it has a aftermarket trigger and a target scope but don't call me Bubba as it is a parts gun and when I got it the drilling and such had been long done.

Lymans Cast Bullet Handbook is about the best resource I have found but there is tons of info around on the web. When I started back in the mid 1970s the Lyman book was about all there was . Most of the guys casting back then were considered nuts living in the past!

I have all the gear but to be honest most of my cast bullet use in the last 20 years has been commercial cast stuff . With the issues we face these days finding components I need to get back going with it all

yep, another relatively new caster here.  I wasn't driven into it by the state of affairs in the gun world today, it was simply wanting to shoot some older C&R stuff with some really mild loadings.

so far I'm casting for
311291's for my springfield 1903 and my k31
314299's for my enfield, mosin, and my Krag
141 WC's and 158 SWC's for the light .357 target loads in .357 cases
200 SWC's, and 230 RN for the .45ACP's.

One thing I have learned is you cannot have enough lead, unless you're moving.

I use the same stuff.  Easy.  I just cast the Lee Tumble lube bullets and give them a quick coat and let them dry.

Good idea about casting your own "boolets."

There is loose talk here in Calif that the. .GOV is going to tax them.

Normal lead levels for adults are less than 20 micrograms/dL of lead in the blood

I'd say you're perfectly fine and good to cast for another 30 years

If I buy a marlin guide gun in 44 mag I will be buying the equipment to cast my own bullets so I never have to buy any ammo for it. I have been considering 45 lc too.
