Might be old hat to some here, but the Dollar Store has some prepping items that are worth looking for.

We had to go to a Dollar store here in town for some cheap decorations.  While the wife was looking around, I stumbled into the grocery section (didn't even know they had groceries).

I found 2lb bags of Spaghetti and Ziti pasta for $1 a bag (.50 a lb) which is half the price my supermarkets have it when it is on sale.
Checked ingredients (to check for weird fillers or whatever) and only had one, Semolina Flour.

Spices, Pickles, condiments, canned vegetables, etc all nearly half price as the grocery store.

The day before (unfortunately), we bought cans of jalapeno peppers (7 oz can) $1 ea. at the supermarket, At the Dollar store they had 12oz cans (same brand) for $1.
Almost half/oz....

Just a thought

There is a dollar store near us that gets all sorts of random overstocks.

My dad went in once and they had minwax floor finsh for a buck a can, he bought the whole place out and then refinished his hardwood.

I scored a case of chalkline chalk in big containers for like 4 bucks.

If you have a place like that near you it is usually worth a monthly check in with about 100 bucks in your pocket.

I just built an entire sewing kit (very well stocked) and put the finishing touches on my medical kits from the store - on the cheap. also got various dry beans, pens, and all sorts of other stuff. I'm really starting to like that place!

Last time I went, they had TWELVE packs of AA's.  I can usually find 8's of AAA's and AA's, and 4's of C's and D's.

Look around, when I was in they had 4's, 8's, and 12's, all in different places.  But all a Buck.

That is cheap, Rite Aid had them for $5.49 on sale when I bought two.

Ours usually has little toohbrush/paste kits.
We stack them deep for unexpected guests,
or grandkids that forget to bring a toothbrush when they come to visit.

You would be surprised how many times toothbrushes come up missing in their bags.

They stock they same things for a long time, but occasionally they have something different for a short period.  I found some small no-stick cookie sheets and baking pans that fit my Camp Chef Camp Oven for a buck each.  I try to go once a month at least.

Some superfluous things in there but overall, it gives a decent start for people who are totally clueless.

I'd never think that there could be people who are totally clueless but they're everywhere.

In general my beef with the list:

Aspirin, it should never be taken as a pain reliever and it should especially never be given to children.
Two different knives. If one was a bowie knife and the other a folder it would make some sense but this way, not really.
The clothes hamper thing is meaningless.
If I have a toothbrush and paste with me, I'm tossing the mouthwash, it's dead weight, I barely use it at home in normal times.

It's more like a "cheap and usefull stuff I picked up from the dollar store" list than a BOB, still, quite nice.

Ya, but those larger packages aren't alkaline batteries.

Alkaline batteries store better and seem to last longer...I'm pretty stocked on AA alkalines (I like the Rayovac brand for the price), but I buy all my AAA's at the Dollar Tree and have used the sunbeam AA alaklines that were a few years old with no issue.

It's been my experience not to even waste your time with "heavy duty" batteries unless you plan to use them quickly.

Independent or chain dollar store?

We have both in my area.  The chain stores tend to have more of the same with few "one-time buy" type of items.  I have found the big cans of both carb cleaner and brake cleaner at my local dollar tree for $1 in the past.  The chain stores always seem to have the ~3-6 packs of coin/button batteries also.

The independents seem to carry the same stuff day-to-day, but they also get more "special" or "one-time" buys that you have to pretty much be in the right place at the right time to get.  I have found various odds and ends and usually get the coin/button batteries in 10 packs.

I don't buy any food from dollar stores.

This one is called Dollar Tree, I think they are a chain.  We also have 'Family Dollar' but have not been in that store

we have found great deals on candles at our dollar store. We don't go there often but always find a few useful items at good prices. We havealso  picked up disposable lighters, duct tape, etc really cheap. It is definately worth a look occasionally.

solar lights at dollartree are a great find.

1. use it as a garden light, the intended use.

2.  read a book in the dark. line a hallway, put it on the dog for night walks.

3 one rechargeable AA battery

4. single solar panel

5. single led bulb

6 nice light reflector

7. ground stake.

many great uses for $1 buck, can't go wrong.....they sell out quick.
