my FIL git me a gift certificate to my local gun store for my birthday. i'd heard tales of panic buying, seen pmags selling like crazy on the EE, no 5.56 at the local wally world, etc., but hadn't really witnessed it firsthand. first of all, the parking lot was packed; no spaces at all. i've never seen the parking lot that full and i've lived here my whole life. it was nut-to-butt inside. again, i've never seen that many people there before. the owner, whom i've known for some time, didn't have time to talk as he and all of his employees were humping. any other time we'd shoot the breeze for a few minutes, but there was no time today.
there was no 556 on display. one of the employees was selling his personal stash for $8.95/10 rd stripper!!! used aluminum mags were $20. and people were buying it!! normally there's stacks of surplus/cheap x39 & x51 on pallets; it was picked over and mostly gone. wolf .22 was selling for $75/500, and folks were buying it! i was amazed, humored and saddened at the same time. i came home and looked at my tiny ammo fort and my tiny stack 'o mags and felt instant relief. my wife asked "why are folks going crazy??" i told her, "they're scared, and now they're trying to make up for not buy/planning ahead in the past, and they're paying for it, literally." anywho, i typed all that to say this: thanks to the SF for helping me plan ahead so i'm not scrambling to catch up like so many. hug your wife and tell her you love her; these are troublesome times indeed. |

I witnessed the same thing here (small town, 1 gun/pawn shop). The guy had 6 or 7 AK's (looked like cheap junk) going for $600 and ammo that was $35 for a box of 20 (wolf,) several cheap made AR's.
The place was packed and several people (4 or 5) were filling out 4473's. I know the guy and have built several AR's for him, he calls out to me and ask if I had any AR's I wanted to sell, I left very quickly.. while I was there I witnessed a cop sell his personal Colt AR with 6 gi mags and about 550 rds of ammo for $5200 |

I have a few friends new to the game. Neither of them have any serious ammo. Now they want me to sell em some. not doing it. For the past year I have been preaching to one of them to buy ammo, all you can afford and mags too. Guess what, he has 1 mag and maybee 100 rds of wolf. The other guy, has 1 mag and ZERO ammo. He bought his AR a M400 for $950 the week after the shooting. He made out on the gun price ok, but kept tellin me that he cant afford any ammo. I kept tellin him he wasnt gonna get any if he didnt react now before its sold out. I saw a few mags for sale last week for around 15 each and snagged him 10. that was all i was willing to buy for him without his consent. I didnt wanna get stuck with high priced mags I dont need. I was telling the both of them that if they cant get any ammo, then they should buy a single stage press, and all the powder, primers and bullets they can and I would teach em to reload. I even provided links. They both messed around and didnt do squat about it........... all the while I was in the process of buying 4000 bullet heads, primers and powder for myself. You can lead em to water, but................. you cant make em smarter. Moral of the story is that both these guys let their wife hold all their money. they dont even have a fun account. Meanwhile my wife was hounding me to make sure I had enough to make it through this and told me to go and spend whatever it took to get there. |
| The people are panicking for a good reason. The anti-gunners for awhile has been advocating licensing and regulation of ammo sales because the news media was freaked out when they discovered someone had 10,000 rounds of ammo, and the authorities didn't know about it. The fallout from the Sandy Hook shooting push to regulate guns, and ammo. |

A lot of people spending a lot of money on things that should be a lot less give it a few months! Really I saw a guy selling 5 thermold mags in 20 rd AR for $125! People I think NRA gun salesmen of the year 2008 is doing the same thing!
Might be wrong but not looking to spend $49 for one Pmags like some places |
