Right now I have a Honda CRv and I'm damn happy with it. Takes me anywhere, doesnt get stuck when theres some mud (LOTS of mud in Northern Ireland) and well, I'm happy with the thing. Now I'm already lookign into options for when repalcing the Cr-V and the X-Trail seems like a nice vehicle within what I want. A car taht yo can drive all day witohut breaking the bank, yet has acceptable ground clearance and some 4WD capability in case you need it. Anyone has one? Are you happy with it?

I really like my 2012 Jeep Patriot.
It is a very capable cross over. 4wd + 28mpg = win for me. It is not Jeep Wrangler or Jeep Cherokee but is a great DD. (owned both previously and used to do a lot off wheeling/ rock crawling) The Jeep Patriot is a great compromise vehicle when you need to commute 40 miles per day and only use 4wd a hand full of times per year. |

There not sold anymore in canada and where replace by the rogue and juke.
My father use to have one and was rally satisfied. Got an accident and decide to go with the Subaru forester since the x-trail was discontinued. You can't go wrong with the x-trail if your looking for quality and fuel economy. Proven engine without problem and bug free. I witness the accident that day cause i was waiting for my father (side impact) and can tell you they are good for security loll Or stick with a new CRV from Honda I'm with my second X-Terra (pro 4X) now and really happy with it. I love Nissan. Already had 2 Jeep (YJ and Sahara edition) but prefer my X in the overall quality. |

We love our Xterra. We have bigger and smaller vehicles, but the X is our favorite. We got a screaming deal on it used (2009 S 4x4) with 27k on it and have used it a lot since we bought it in Jan 2010. It's now at 78k and we've done nothing but oil changes and just this week replaced brake pads. It's towed a 4000lb trailer from Buffalo, NY to the twin cities MN area when we moved and did an awesome job. Honest 12mpg trip average keeping up with traffic and in 100f heat the whole way. No overheating at all. We use Mobile 1 and 87 octane. without a trailer or roof carrier we get about 22 mpg going 75 and about 24 going 55 nice and easy on highways. 19-20 combined rush hour traffic is pretty easy. Thule racks -2mpg. We havent offroaded it much at all besides back atv trails big enough for cars, but we have drivien through some incredible blizzards and rough winter weather where the traction system and 4x4 was absolutley incredible taking the car and us saftely where other vehicles were easily stuck. If I had to buy a new car today it would be the offroad model with a manual tranny. This is what we wanted originally, but they seem to be made from unobtanium. That doesn't really seem like a lateral replacement ![]() I just helped my parents buy a new Juke a few months ago. They love it, but it's no compact SUV. Anyway, I had 2 Frontiers (truck version of the XTerra) and they were great trucks; having always been a Ford truck guy, they really exceeded my expectations. I have a Titan now, but I haven't really got to see what it does in deep snow or mud yet. Speed |

well your in ireland aint ya..there's gotta be a few AWD cars over there and while the gas will suck some rovers/land cruisers. IVe actaully been eying some of the subarus for a bit. I know theres gotta be a few crossover styles in awd over there that we cant get here or like said just upsizes to the pilot in awd/4x4 |

There's plenty of Land Rovers that sell for cheap, heck, there's MoD Armored Defenders (ex mil) that sell for a few thousand bucks, but Land Rovers are known for not beignt he msot reliable car and they do kill you in terms of gas milage. Lots of honda CR-V and toyota Rav4, and Xtrails, plenty fo Freelanders too and Defenders.

Holy crap...I actually like this Patriot thing! I had no idea they even made this. I notice no speed sensitive steering. How does she drive in the curves? It seems to compare fairly well to the Rav-4. The Xterra is an awesome mid-sized SUV that's very capable offroad. I loved my '05, but she sucked gas. If you're a Rockefeller and don't mind stopping into gas stations, then she's for you. My buddy has a newish Toyota 4-runner and he liked my X better. Konger |
