Found this listed the other morning and cruised over to check it out before work. Some older lady had to sell her travel trailer, and was getting rid of this as well. They said it hadn't been started in a year, but I was able to get it fired up pretty easy. It ran really rough, and couldn't power much of a load, but for $200 I figured I should take the chance.

30 minutes of work and 1/4 can of carb cleaner later, and this thing is purring as quiet as a Honda.

Yup. Their inverter series.

Damn, that was a great score!

I am extremely familiar with that model, because one of my FL offices has a pair of them for tertiary backup power. They are extremely quiet, and the sine wave is beautiful. Don't know exactly what my company paid for them originally since I wasn't the one who bought them. They were expensive though-around $1500ea if I remember right.

Used 3500TIs without the electric start kit run around $1000 to $1200 depending on condition. Oddly enough, you'll see lots of Kipor inverter gensets around here at horse shows and stables-they are very popular with the equestrian crowd.

You STOLE that thing brother....nice work!

If you need any help getting parts I have a source in Florida, and I believe they ship.

would you buy one that isn't producing juice? I have a line on another one that looks and runs great, but doesn't push electricity from the outlets. Might pick that one up too...

Is it the same model as your 3500Ti? If so, I'd buy it for parts if the price was right.

Actually, even if it isn't the same model I'd probably buy it anyway...if the price was right.

You can buy parts to fix them, but I'd hate to see you sink a ton of dough into a maybe. Could you post the specific model? We can look at the diagnostic procedures specific to that model to try and pin down what might be wrong with it

Thanks, I'll take a look!

By the way, here is the shop manual for your new 3500Ti LINK

That manual covers both the 3000Ti and the 3500Ti-thought that might be useful to you I try to keep service/shop manuals on-hand for all of the power equipment I have at home and work.

Bcauz3y, you might want to shoot an IM to Skibane if you don't get an answer to your question here. He is intimately familiar with Champion gensets, and I believe he owns/runs several of them

ETA: Looks like that model runs between $500 and $600 new.

I've heard that a generator can lose is magnetic charge in the head and not produce power even though the engine runs good.  Apparently, you can take a corded drill plug it in to the outlet, and with the gen engine running and circuit on, press the drill trigger and manually spin the drill's chuck with your hand.  This backfeeds a small amount of juice back to the gen head and re magnetizes the head.

I wouldn't do this until after you buy it, or the price might suddenly double.

That's called "flashing the field", but I didn't think that was possible with inverter gensets.

I could be wrong though-so I'll have to defer to someone who knows more about that subject than me. I've flashed an older Coleman Powermate genset before, and it worked perfectly. Did it with a regular corded Dewalt drill.

I'm pretty sure that won't work on an inverter unit.

that is a pretty decent deal, assuming they are being honest about the hours on the unit. You can get a parallel kit for them like the Hondas as well.
