Just saying good bye to the sf forum I always liked this forum and have learned a lot here but after my last post in the gear forum I realize that it is starting to turn into the GD forum and thats not for me good luck to everyone

Yea, this place isnt what it once was thats for sure. I think arfcom as a whole has turned into one big GD, I know mods/admin try but too many douchebags skirt the COC to belittle or just run their mouth. So, I cant blame you really.  Ive been reading more than posting. Alot of times its really not worth my time to say anything.

yeah its bad when you post something that gets 19 replys and only 1 of the has anything to do with what you posted

Same here, I've do a lot more reading then posting. It's really a shame.
I to have learned a lot but like you both said, a lot of GD has come in here just since I've joined, not that long ago.
I think everyone likes to have a little laugh or maybe High Side a little, but some of this stuff now is a big turn off.
My membership is coming up soon, I've have to do a little thinking myself I guess.

Maybe it's a dikfer.

Kidding, of course.  Sad to see you go, but I can't say I don't understand.

OP, the problem with that thread is that you were asking people to show off their gear,

Some people get sensitive about their OPSEC, as I pointed out.

I wouldn't be so quick to give up on the SF forums.

Its not the fact of people not wanting to post pics of stuff some people will and some wont what bothers me is all the BS people posted that had nothing to do with a PIC thread.

I agree with the above. I mainly read the SF and post when I have specific questions. I have found in general, the SF is able to answer my questions and has alot of viable info. There are alot of new memebers in SF, but I think it has to do with the current TV shows like "Preppers". I more people would read the good info and tacked threads first and go from there.

Another GD post in a tech forum. I love GD, but it doesn't belong in tech.

Suck it up cupcake.  You want to throw away what this forum can teach you because you didn't get what you want? Kind of over dramatic to me. Then you decided to post about your dissatisfaction in a "look at me" fashion?

Don't take this wrong, but...the reason the thread went in a different direction than you intended it was because in a thread about survival gear pictures, you posted pictures of tactical gear and firearms only. While that stuff is awesome and extremely useful, there is a lot more to survival gear than that...and there is already a forum for the type of gear pictures you posted, so the thread kind of went downhill. No sense getting upset about it.

TexasMedic, I'm sorry that your thread got partially hijacked by GD style asshattery.

In an effort to get it back on track, I just blew it up with several pics of my own emergency gear. Since I wasn't sure what you were originally looking for, I posted a pretty decent cross section from the "asylum de CJan"

Give it another try. You can always leave at anytime and I mean that is the best way.

It seems as a whole our society has gotten hooked on social media that most of the time doesn't carry alot of useful info. I try to keep thing in perspective by trying to seperate the wheat from the chaff. The third definition in my dictonary for chaff is " teasing talk; banter" which there is sometimes no shortage of in online communities. You can find a balance, it can be done.

People who don't own any significant number of guns...
People who couldn't survive on their own...
People who don't prep...
Oxygen thieves...

I don't know why they are even allowed to remain .

I tried staying away from assholes for awhile some years back.  Then, after living three or four years as a hermit, I decided that maybe it might be better to just put up with them

Society as a whole is getting more narcissistic and asshattish, and despite the best the mods can do, expect a little of it to creep in here as well.  The signal to noise ratio is still superior to most forums I can point to, though.

Maybe it's a sign of the times that more people are suddenly interested in the SF.  I'd guess that GD is where most people learn to use arfcom, and don't realize that the tech forums are different.

I personally enjoy a little humor here and there, and a little messing around just keeps it from being totally boring.

The occasional A-Hole does get shut down pretty fast.
6/16/2012 5:20:06 AM EDT
[#27]
Fear of getting a mudhole stomped into your ass used to be enough to keep people on the straight and narrow. Nowadays its just a reason to wind up in handcuffs. Sad. The internet gives an outlet for asshats to propagate, multiply and breed.

OP: Hang in there, man. Un-wad your panties, pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and try again. SF is probably the most-intelligent prepping community you'll find out there. All the other sites are still hung up on how many ways to start a fire you can carry in your BOB.
6/16/2012 5:54:39 AM EDT
[#28]
Its also difficult - due to the increase in asshat population - to inject any levity in here at all without inciting wrath from mods or other SFers. Sometimes you have to make light of prepping, and add a little humor. With the current demographic in here its difficult.

Texasmedic,

I hope you stay, but if you do leave I hope you find what you are looking for.
P.S.  Although that thread had a few guys foolin around, I thought all in all it was a nice thread. I consider myself fairly sensitive to all the fooling around in here and have been put off by all the GD crowd posting in here ever since about a year ago when it became popular to be a prepper/wannabee.  The reason I stay is because I have made  friends with many of the guys in here and have learned a lifetime worth of survival knowledge in a few years.

We all hope you stay and help make our community stronger.
