i did a search and went back ten pages so hopefully this isn't a dupe.  can anyone recommend high quality led replacement heads for d-cell maglites?  i have several 5 cell mag lites stored up for my family and i'd like to replace the internals with leds for the longevity and ruggedness.

many thanks!

Ever think about getting a strike bezel and glass breaker tail cap? A few companies sell those for the d cell maglites.

Malkoff has great drop-ins for Maglite as well as surefire.

For another option look up Anglelux on google.  About 200 lumens it's an original Fulton angle head converted to LED and will run for around 24 hours to get down to half output.

Just about the ultimate emergency tool when setup with the led, bezel and tail cap. Great to keep between the console and seat of a vehicle. I accidentally knocked a 5D cell maglite off my dresser and got cracked in the head , I couldn't imagine someone getting hit by someone putting their ass behind it. Likely the reason why a strike to the head is usually considered deadly force in some parts.

I just have one I picked up cheap at Sportsman's warehouse in mine.

That was about 5 years ago... still works just fine.  Never changed the batteries.  (I probably should put them in something else anyway, but I don't have much that runs on D's)

I purchased one of the Fusion 36 kits last week after seeing positive reviews about them on the candlepower forum. Has anyone here tried this thing before? I should be able to report back in a month or so when it finally comes in.

Sadly I found out my 5 D maglight really liked one of the batteries so much so it will not let it out of the tube.   So, do I buy a new 4-6 d/c light or keep it as a spare?

I have the 700+ lumen one. It's just obnoxious! Bright beyond bright, in a 6D light.

If it's just swolen, you can take the head off and apart. Then push the old battery out if I remember correctly.

I just mentioned this in a recent post.

You can get a replacement Maglite if batteries are made by Duracell, Eveready and Energizer, if I read the information correctly on Maglites site.

Good luck!

A quick heads up to anyone with Maglites in cold climates.  The D or C batteries do not last in sub-zero weather whereas CR123s are GTG in 20 below weather in your car without fail.

Tried to remove the switch with no luck.   Replacement "free" cost with the certain brand batteries is $12.   So, I am just going to get a new 5C light to match another one I have from Natchez for $14.49.

So, I have a head an bezal from a mag-light for a future project.

It's a chemistry issue, most D cells are alkaline - and alkaline isn't a very good battery in cold weather. Go with a NiMH rechargeable, they aren't quite as good as the CR123 type (lithium something or other) but will still get decent power for an LED flashlight.

I have spare surefire g2s in each vehicle and have 100% confidence they will fire up in bitter cold weather when I need them.

Sorry for the hijack...
