What is a cheap LED flashlight for EDC? I'm looking for something that is small enough to fit in a pair of jeans, won't get turned on accidentally in the pocket, and produces a good amount of light. My budget is $30. I'm unfamiliar with flashlights, so I'm looking for any help and advice I can get.
Thanks for the help! |

My only gripe about Fenix and Quark is all the useless (to me) extra modes . Just give me low and high . I don't need SOS, flicker, flashing, strobe, disco, ect, ect .
Spend the extra 20 and get a Fenix PD30 on ebay. You won't be sorry. The tactical versions eliminate those problems for guys like you. Two modes that you chose. |

Spend the extra 20 and get a Fenix PD30 on ebay. You won't be sorry. some of the Jetbeam 1 AA and 2 AA lights just have a low and high. would be nice if they had a 50% mode IMHO. about $40 shipped on ebay. some manufacturers do seem to get carried away on modes. strobe might be nice on a tactical light as long as it stays in srobe and oyu don't have to hunt for it. for an EDC / GP light, low, medium, high is fine. |

I'm personally a big fan of my Streamlight Microstream, can be had for less than $20 online. AAA batteries, decent output, small and light weight, clicky tailcap and pocket clip makes it a great fit for me. I carry one of these all the times, its so small you don't notice it. Tough too, ran through the washing machine once, it held up. Streamlight Microstream Sometimes I carry a bigger light, E2D is great but expensive. My fenix tk11 is alright. |

Again. Quark tactical. Two modes and you get to choose the brightness level. |

http://www.countycomm.com/aaworldssmallest.html Great light, I have been carrying the AAA version for a while now. As a flash light junkie, these lights suck. They always come up in these threads. Threads are too loose so they flicker too easily. Tighten them up too tight, the .015" thick walls behind the internal threads on the head can break. I bought 4 when they came out. All of them were a disappointment. Including the titanium version. The Fenix LD01 is a much better light. |

My EDC is a Rayovac sportsman. It uses 2 AA batteries and was cheap $10 usable light. I just looked on there web site and it looks like they no longer sell this model but they have a Indestructible LED 2AA Flashlight that is similar. Home Depot carries them for $15.
2AA model 3 AAA model |

To each there own, but I have abused this light at work for a year now and its still going strong. My wife ran hers threw the washing machine/dryer and it still working. I have never owned a Fenix, so I cant comment on which is a better light. |

I have a fenix e01 that has been on my key ring for a couple of years. works great for what I use it for.
The important things to me in a pocket flashlight are size, battery life, ruggedness, and not accidentally turning on. No problems in any of those categories. I do not want or need a searchlight like many people seem to think is the way to go. Just something to be able to light up a dark pathway, look for a key in the dark, or look in a dimly light electrical cabinet. I suspect I would not have it on my person if it was any bigger, and if it was not attached to my key ring I would forget it now and then and would want it and not have it. |

ive never personally used a Streamlight microstream or similar smaller lights but i do have a stinger LED and i cannot tell you how tuff these lights are i am a mechanic and my light takes routine fall from heights up to 15ft, gets cleaned daily with brake clean or in the parts washer and i have used it as a hammer . these light are built to be abused. ive had mine for about two years and the only problem ive had was a battery that wouldnt hold a complete charge, but my snap-on guy said he would warranty it since i bought it from him, ill see if i have a picture of it so you can see the abuse, not the cheapest about $170 if i remember right but it was well worth every penny

You can spend as much as you want, me, I was looking for 3 things. 1 LED, 2 Pointy bits on the end, 3 uses AA batteries. I found THIS It may not be the sexiest beast in the drawer, but it has good burn time in my experience and fits good in the hand for hammer strikes with the aforementioned pointy bits, oh yeah, I got mine for $9.99.
