Hello all,
It seems like the ESEE knives are pretty well spoken of here so I decided to give them a try. I am looking at the ESEE 3 and 4, but I can't seem to find a difference between the two to make me decide on one or the other. I am leaning toward the ESEE 3, but should I be considering the ESEE 4? I am looking for a small utility fixed blade knife that I would predominately be using for fishing trips.  I just don't really see that much of a difference between the two to even justify them being two different lines of knives butmaybe I'm missing something.

Also, if this knife turns out to be as nice as others have said quality wise, I may look into the ESEE 5 or 6, for more of a larger outdoorsman knife. Anyone else have to choose between the 5 and 6? Which did you chose and why?

Thanks

Yeah, I just got my 5 in, and I'm pretty sure I'll grab it whenever I need to skin a Terminator.  Otherwise, I think I'll get a 3 for everyday use.

Go with the 3 for utility use.  I would only go with the 4 if you needed a really thick blade for batoning or chopping.

I have a ESEE 3 and a 6.  The 3 is a great cigar cutter/skinning knife  The ESEE 6 mostly just stayed on my body armor while I was in Iraq.

You can also get the 3 with the glass break pommel... If that has any use in your needs.

To the OP, no offense, but you need to smell the coffee, stop living in your ivory-tower dream-fantasy world and start living in reality.

The fact of the matter is this has never been an issue of deciding on whether to get the ESEE-3 or the ESEE-4, but only an issue of which ESEE knife to get first and the order in which you will - eventually - buy all the other ESEE knife models.

So, let's cut to the chase and help you rejoin reality:  these are the pics that you're really looking for:

Good luck!

The ESEE3 does look like it would work nice for what I would be using it for.  Its still a little hard not to just spring for the little larger ESEE4.  I should just place the order for the ESEE3 and when I get the urge to need a larger blade, then I'll spring for the ESEE5.

The esee 5 is a HUGE jump up. It's a thick, heavy bastard.

After handling the 3,4 & 5. Different purposes intended, but It was a close toss up between the 3 and the 4. I went with the 3 because the  standard sheath offers more of a handle to grab, and it's easier to pull the knife out quickly.

I wear it on my IOTV, don't need a machete, and I definitely don't want something that screams "Grab me" hanging off me. For camping/fishing/outdoor type stuff, My vote goes with the 3.

With knives its like in boxing: No matter what way you want to look at it, speed, technique, dexterity, experience. All are important but bigger is better.

Bigger isn't always better when it comes to knives.  I would rather have a good shorter knife over a long bastard for skinning/cleaning game.  The shorter ones are more handy for detail work.

I've got the 5, 4, 3Mil, and an Izzy.  The 5 is a beast and the 4 is an awesome knife in the mid-size blade. But I found that prior to getting the 3, I was carrying and using the Izula the most.  Since getting the 3, I've decided that any further purchases are going to be 3s and Izulas.  The 5 sits in my my car and the 4 sits in my BOB, the 3 and Izula get carried and used.  In short, I would look at a either the 3 or the Izula 2, especially if you are planning on a 6 or 5 in the future.

I just received a 4 for an early bday present . Ive been wearing it every day all this week . It seems nice , looking at the 3 , it would be a better edc knife . Hiking and in the woods I think the 4 would fit better . I honestly dont like carring a big ass knife so the 4 is about the largest thing I would want .

Isn't the Dozier double the price of the ESEE.
